Hi everyone.

About a week and a half ago I woke up, feeling like my normal self. After about an hour I started to feel a slight pain in my chest area, to the right side and just there. I thought nothing of it and expected it to go. Throughout the day it progressivly got worse until I could hardly walk/move due to the pain it caused. I began to have trouble breathing and felt out of breath.

The next day I awoke to find the pain still there, and constant. I began to worry slightly thinking it could be something bad. The pain was constant and breathing hard throughout the whole day.

The day after that the pain had got even worse. I decided to go to my local GP. He listened to my heart and the surrounding area with a stethoscope and said the breathing was fine. He said that the pain might be caused by a swollen (insert word here, I think he said cartalidge but i'm not 100% sure). He gave me painkillers and said come back tomorrow if the breathing is still bad.

So the day after the doctors visit I was still in the same constant pain, but I felt the breathing had eased. Thus I decided not to return to the doctors. Nearing the end of the day I felt it had eased down by quite a bit and was starting to feel confident that it'd be fine soon!

The next day the breathing was fine and the pain was very little. By the end of the day it had virtually gone.

Over the next few days, the pain would only occur if I made any quick movements and I was very pleased that it had healed.

However, since yesterday the pain has been gradually coming back although my breathing seems to be fine. Right now it is so bad that I cannot even walk up or down the steps and even leaning forward, leaning backwards, standing up or any other slight movements causing a sharp pain in the EXACT same spot as it did a few days ago. Now i'm no doctor but common sense would tell me this needs to be checked out by someone soon. It is extremely sore and about 30 minutes ago I was in tears due to the sheer amount of pain!

Do you recommend going back to see my doctor tomorrow? Or maybe even going to casualty and seeing if they want to do any scans. I cannot put up with the pain anymore and don't think i'll be getting much sleep tonight.

I didn't injure myself in anyway on the day or a few days before this began to happen so it's a mystery to me. Oh and I am also 16, incase that will be relevant for anything.

I look forward to reading your replies 🙂
If there's any questions just ask.
Sorry it's a long read too!

Thanks a lot.

EDIT:
Thought i'd add, whenever I sneeze, laugh, yawn it also hurts.

Go back to see the GP and ask for future tests, ie xray. Insist on further investigations, take your parents along as well.

I would go to Accident and Emergency. At least there, there are specialist doctors who will be able to identify your problem immediately. It could be caused by a pulled muscle, ie. your diaphragm or intercostal muscles, but heart disorders are so varied, you need to get a second opinion if it's still bothering you.

[sm=hippy.gif]Hello Supermmazza.

You could have puled a muscle in your chest, but you need to get it checked out as soon as possible.
because if you dont you are going to worry, which will make it worse.
my 14 year old son was complaining of the same thing he had an ECG, to check his heart ,out he was told that it was caused by growing pains.

take care

Hi,

This needs to be checked out - but may, in fact, not be serious. It is possible - given the excruciating pain that you are experiencing - but no history of injury or other illness, that you have costochondritis - an inflammation of connective tissue in the chest area - as suggested by your doc. Google it for more info.

I have this condition on and off myself and it is excricating - so I completely sympathise. I treat mine with a homeopathic combination of arnica, aconite and rhus toxall at 30c. It works virtually immediately.

If you do have costochondritis it could be indicative of another inflammatory problem underlying this one - so be on the lookout for things like swollen joints.

PM me if you want more info.

Jayney

Thanks for all the replies.
I was not able to go to the doctors or A&E.
The pain has died down again, just like last time. I'm going to see if it comes back and if it does, i'll go to A&E.
I don't know if it's of any importance but I have had a sore lower back when sitting (not for long times) for a while now.

I just would like to know if you smoke. I used to blame every pain I had on smoking.
If you would like some help to quit smoking, you can find some product at [link= http://nicorette.co.uk/stop-smoking/products.aspx ]http://nicorette.co.uk/stop-smoking/products.aspx[/link]
Hope it helps

It is probably a pulled muscle as said above, but you NEED to rule out any other conditions if that pain comes back regularly or again...
