RE: sinusitis

I would recommend ear candling or Thermo-Auricular Therapy. It is a very effective, natural way of relieving ear, nose, throat and sinus problems.

For a list of therapists in the north of the country try and for the south [DLMURL] http://www.thermo-auricular.fsnet.co.uk [/DLMURL]

RE: sinusitis

Two main components:- excess mucous production, poor drainage & swelling of mucous membranes.

If excessive mucous production, then you may be lactose intolerant. Lactose id the sugar in milk, so cutting this out may help. Live yoghurt should be okay, although body may associate the milk protiens with the sugar & still react, although probably to a lesser degree.

Swelling of mucous membranes - may be due to a sensitivity to grains, sugars or other common 'sensitivities' or allergens. The respiratory & digestive tracts overlap & the latter is the first line of defence with regard to food. If your experience swelling in one then you may be getting it throughout both.

Poor drainange from the facial sinuses can be improved with cranial osteopathy, so if mucous present - I would go for that & cut out milk & milk products as a first step, which will likely bring quite rapid relief.

Also, osteopathic/chiropractic manipluation of the upper neck (assuming that it is stiff, but I would put money on it!) will most likely give almost immediate relief. Too complicated to try & explain the theories here, but just about everyone I've ever treated that have reported sinus pain have benefitted from this &/or cranial treatment.

Once released - it's essential that you do the stretches to keep your upper neck mobile and if it still returns, then you probably are looking at allergies, intolerance & sensitivities being the underlying problem.

Oh and exam or other 'stress' is likely to aggravate the problem - sorry!

Suggest a book by Prof. Brostoff & Gamlin, called Food Allergy & Intolerance (I think). It also discusses research on associatiation of rheumatoid arthritis & food sensitivities.

If the hat fits, then a VEGA type allergy test from a reputable tester & avoidance would be a short term answer. This in itself seems to desensitise some after a few months, but others tend to become more sensitive when exposed to the offending foods/substances. The latter was the case with me.

If this is the underlying problem for the RA & sinusitis and you want to actively do something to desensitise yourself, then what worked for me was NAET allergy treatment. More on that on link below and there's a link on there to NAET for Europe that has a UK list of practitioners, although not that many as yet, as it's relatively new, over from the US.

Please let us know how you get on - Andrew.

RE: sinusitis

I was on my way to reply to you in another thread, when I found myself in this one ... how VERY interesting!

I have osteoarthritis in my neck following injury many years ago AND sinusitis - never thought there might be a connection. More to check out there, then. I certainly do find that too much cheese has a bad effect on my sinuses, other than that they're not too bothersome unless I also have an infection eg flu. The neck mobility is vastly helped by reflexology.

Would you agree that following antibiotics, a course of Acidopholus (?sp) is a good thing to take - to put back the beneficial "bugs"?

Hi Melanie. You will only miss the dairy stuff for a while. I used to love cream, milk etc but I barely touch them these days for the same reasons.

Once you have got used to not having them you really don't miss them. I acutally prefer to eat strawberries without cream now and I never thought I would say that!;)

Hi Donavan
I have a good news for you: there is cure. I had the same problem for 4 years.
1) kundalini yoga is the best to clean your airways
2) better don't take the antibiotics
3) use an infra lamp when it hurts. 10 mins maybe 2 times daily
4) get ear candling (do it with a pro first and check the output!)
5) living at the sea helps too 🙂
