Hi,

Just heard from a friend about a workshop for Asthma sufferers where people learn through a new technology to monitor and re-train their breathing. It is supposed to be a drug free approach to help people with asthma. It is based on the Buteyko method, but easier to learn. Has anyone worked with this technique? Please let me know if you have more information about this.

RE: New breathing technique

Hi,
I guess you may be talking aboutPapworth Method? It's a breathing technique for asthma sufferers developed 40 years ago and has been proved to cut symptoms of breathlessness by a third.

The Papworth method is a sequence of breathing and relaxation exercises devised at Papworth hospital. it sounds very similar to Buteyko (which I have used successfully or my own asthma) as it aims to curb "over-breathing" and encourage gentler, more relaxed breathing, using the abdomen and diaphragm rather than the chest.

There's plenty of information about Buteyko, but I can't find much on this Method. JL
