I was due to have a hernia operation, but it has been cancelled due to the fact my chest is not good. I am wheezy all the time, and breathless when I walk quickly. I was told at the hospital to go back and see my gp, but he says there is nothing more he can do. Sometimes at night if I have acid I notice the next day that my bed pillows have black patches where I have brought up acid. I have had X rays, and blood tests, my blood count is low, so I am going to have an endiscopy, and colonoscopy done, no date yet. I am trying to find any natural ways that I can improve my general condition, and help my chest, and stomach. What do you think?

Hello

Firstly I would like to say get well soon. This sounds a lot like what my dad had last year. he went for allsorts and they found in the end an ulcer and it was depleting his iron levels. His iron levels left him weak, wheezy, dizzy, sleeping lots, weird appetite, he was snappy with people and just was not himself. He has been on iron and walking daily now and feels a lot better.

Naturally you could maybe try eating iron rich foods and I am sure some people on here will be better at myself to list these.

I will also send you Reiki for a few days at 2 pm daily if I have your permission to do so.
My Hay fever at the moment is awful and I feel very wheezy with all this rapeseed that is around the place.

I hope you start to pick up soon and enjoy the rest of the summer

Love and Blessings

Helen x

Hi there Michael

Sorry to hear you are under the weather. Not nice!

The stains on the pillow need sorting - are you on iron tablets? Is it fersolate? If so I'd change them to another form such as this one which is much better absorbed and doesn't cause indigestion, and see what happens. If not then take a pillowcase in to the GP to look at.

Sounds to me like a case of food intolerance/s amongst other things! In which case I'd get yourself off to a registered nutritional therapist sharpish!! It's not possible to give you proper advice without a full consultation, which the NT will do. The GP will not understand food intolerance as it is not part of their curriculum, and will probably poo-poo it. (I have seen some remarkable results from sorting out food intolerances).

Wishing you all the best.

Hi Helen

I've found high doses of vitamin C do wonders for hayfever - up to bowel tolerance and then reduce by 500mg/day. This probably means you'd be best to get a non-acidic form like Ester-C or BioCare's vitamin C powder, and take it every couple of hours to start with until your symptoms reduce. You may need 10gms or more to start with and you can always reduce as required. I would also take natural vitamin E (dl- form, not the d- form) and some fish oils which will also help reduce inflammation.

I used to have dreadful hayfever - needing steroids to cope, but no more!

All the best

Oh Michael, I truly feel for you.
I have been living with stomach hell every day for three years.
Nothing I have done has worked, I found ginger a help with the acid but all the other drugs the doctors threw at me did nothing for me.
I had H pylori, later they proved through barium swallow that I have a hiatus hernia.

Caroline has been a great support for me (never forgotten ;))

I still cannot eat food, two bites and I am completely full, I am in a terrible state, my only relief that enables me to eat a small meal is a sleeping tablet….which is ridiculous.
The only other time I get any relief is when I lie completely flat??
Doctors look at me like I am an idiot, I have been diagnosed with IBS and Hiatus hernia (been put forward for surgery) was given amitriptyline which didn't work.

I have gained some weight which confuses the doctors ~ doesn’t confuse me given the fact that my body is constantly in starvation mode and I am so sedentary because of the pain.

I have also just been sent an appointment for a hypnotherapist on the NHS!

I cannot believe I have been pushed from pillar to post for three years, despite them knowing my symptoms never abate unless I lie flat.

Many years ago I had surgery on my abdomen and I have constantly asked if this could be the source of my problems, they have always said no and prefer to believe it's stress!!

Further research I discovered incisional hernia and makes a whole lot of sense to me and given the fact that I can see and feel a palpable mass above my scar line, measuring 4 inches by 2 inches when I am stood up….cannot be seen when I lie down.

So I am back to square one....I went to see my GP in bits because I have really had enough and mentioned this and he said, "But you would be able to see that outside!"
I stood up and dropped my skirt and said, "you mean like this?"

He said, "oh yes I can see that!"

He has at least been very supportive but I await formal diagnosis.
I got a letter from the surgical team saying I would get an appointment with 12 weeks.
So I have actually written to them, explaining whilst this is an unorthodox I need help and described everything as succinctly as possible.

Sorry Michael, I didn't intend to give a life history there but please, please continue to fight for help.
I know it's hellish and believe me I have nearly given up, but I have to believe that one day all will be well and I am sorely sorry I EVER took eating for granted.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, if you ever want to chat PM me.:)

Aaaaggghhhh Louisa!! I can't believe you are still struggling wiyth this problem . Sometimes I despair of the medical profession!! 😡

So much can be done and they seem to be telling you it's 'all in the mind' and put you on amytrytiline!!! I may be a grumpy old woman but I'd tell them in no uncertain terms, writing it in triplicate with copies to all and sundry!

The other thing I'd do is find a nutritional therapist to do a full assessment and offer you some useful advice. If you can do have a look at Maria Cross's 'I wish I hadn't Eaten that' also Lipski's 'Digestive Wellness' .

Hoping you get sorted soon now.

Hooray....bumping this up on for a personal update.

Saw a member of the surgical team, finally he listened to my worries regarding incisional hernia/s, agreed I was a little "lumpy" around my scar line and ordered a CT scan.

Guess I will be waiting another few years but nice to know somebody listened. 😀

Buteyko: Natural control of asthma allergies anxiety and sleep

Hi Michael, I hope that you are sorted by now. Otherwise, I highly recommend that you research chronic hyperventilation (overbreathing) on the internet. Breathing too much can cause a lot of these symptoms, then the more anxious you get about cancelled surgery etc, the worse it gets.
Learning to control your breathing could help you a lot.
Good l luck,
Janet

Just to bring you up to date. I have had the endoscopy and the colonoscopy and everything is ok so now I am to have a CT scan on my lungs and neck. The breathing problem is still the same if not a bit worse. I have got some manuka honey ready in case of any infections. My consultant seems to think there is some scaring on my lungs. I have to wait now for an appiontment

Breathing Problems - Buteyko Breathing Method

Sorry you are still suffering. Hyperventilation (overbreathing or disordered breathing) can cause all sorts of problems, not just wheezing but sinusitis, allergies, cold hands, IBS, acid reflux, headaches, itchy skin anxiety... the list goes on. This is because there is a poor oxygen supply to every cell in the body.

The Buteyko Breathing method can help, if you can't get to a practitioner, find info on line or self help books, don't give up!

Now I have had the CT scan but not heard from hospital for about 10 days. Since then I have had yet another chest infection. I had to go to the doctors because my breathing was bad, it was only regeristing 240 on the blowing thing,so was prescribed anti-biotics yet again and steroids although, the doctor was not happy at giving them because of my stomach condition. Anyway I was able to manage without them. When I went back to the doctor she said my breathing had improved but prescribed a stronger anti-biotic as she thought the infection was still there. Now it is better however when I cough up mucus it is still green. I am going to try and protect my immune system with vitamin D3 supplements.

The vitamin D3 supplements seem to be working as I have not had a problem with my breathing since. I have also been taking Manuka honey +5 between meals. The hospital has now confirmed via the ct scan that I have Bronchiectasis, because if scaring on the lungs. I will look if there are any other postings on this condition.

Hi I am going to prepare the following to see if I can help my Bronchiectasis: equal parts of carrot juice, parsnip juice, watercress juice and potato juice, or equal parts of orange juice and lemon juice, diluted half and half with a strong decoction of rosehip tea.. Its worth a try.

Hi Michael

That sounds like a good idea. Juicing is a wonderful way of getting the plant nutrients and enzymes without the bulk. May I suggest this is on top of your 5-a-day. Please note also you need to drink it within half an hour as the contents start to oxidise and deteriorate considerably after that. The only way to keep juice from a big batch is to freeze it in the ice cube trays and consume the melting iced juice later in the day.

Vitamin D3 is good - at this time of year we all need to be on it! Take at least 2000iu daily. In fact it might be a good idea to ask your GP to test you for it.

Have you seen a Nutritional Therapist? There is a lot that can be done to help by consuming the right foods - and although you are definitely on the right path, there is much more that can be done with supplements. I do advise it!! :). Doctors are not taught what NTs are, so cannot give you that advice. The other person who is likely to make a big difference is a registered Herbalist. It may depend on which is closer to you. Are you taking fish oils, vitamin C with zinc extra, which support your immune system. I'd also take Cat's Claw which is an amazing immune-supporting herb from the Amazon.

Hope your recovery continues.

Thanks Caroline, The latest situation is that when I went to see my GP he could not find my sputem sample that had been sent to the hospital. She said that I need to take the anti-biotic Amoxcillen. which seems to have come from the hospital, that was the first anti-biotic that I took a year ago, and it did not work, so I could not see the point in taking it now.

My biggest fear in getting an infection and it going to pneumonia, and that could be fatal. My GP said that she could give me the Pneumonia vaccination which I could have every 10 year, and I last had it in 1996, so I will make an appointment with the nurse and have it done.

I am still protecting myself with manuka honey, and yes I do take vitamin C but not zinc. This to boost my immune system. So thats all so far, but I am still coughing up green phlem. I will post again soon to keep you updated.

Close your mouth, protect your lungs.

Sorry you are still unwell Michael. One way to protect your lungs is to breathe rthrough your nose all the time. Live life at the pace you can breathe throught your nose. It may mean slowing down to begin with.
If you breathe through your nose it warms, filters and humidifies the air so your lungs are less irritated.
Good luck,
Janet
