Hi all. I am hoping i could get some help. For the past 3 days my throat has been very sore, hard to swallow, my nose and ears felt stuffy. I didn't have much of a cough. Well, a little while ago i did one little cough, and out flew some kind of mass. Immediatly after, my sore throat was gone, my nose was clear, and i could hear again. My throat was "bigger/wider". It was semi-solid, was mostly bloody with light colored phlegm. It was very sticky. Had to "peel" it off my fingers. I do smoke about a pack a day. I'm thinking it was just a build-up of stuff, since once i coughed it up, i felt great. Thanks.

Do you think that your body could be trying to tell you something? Like, give up smoking?

RE: Coughed up semi-solid mass

Hi aeris
I'm very new (about ten minutes in!) to this forum and I don't know if I'm going to sound a bit heretical with my advice, but I've decided that if it's given in good faith then hopefully nobody will get offended...
... if you've coughed up blood you should really go and see your GP and get them to examine you. I know it's not very alternative, but to be honest it is the sensible thing to do. It's all very well having a build up of phlegm etc in your throat but when blood is involved there's always a chance that something more serious is going on and the sooner you find out the easier it'll be to sort out.

(In case people are wondering, I'm currently a medical student but I've also done a foundation course in homoeopathy and am genuinely interested in most complementary medicine, I'm not here to make trouble or be some kind of troll who always recommends conventional medicine...)

Best wishes
🙂

Hi aeris and aurora

I would also say go and have it checked by your GP. As a former smoker who was diagnosed four years back with a lung disease I can absolutely vouch for the necessity to give up smoking. It's just such an insane thing to do - and it is possible to stop. I'm proof of that, as are many other people on this forum who will tell their stories if you want them to.

Anyway, welcome, both of you to HP.

Aurora - this isn't an exclusively alternative site. Many people on this forum try to follow natural healing methods but most people realise that there are cases when a medical d octor's intervention/diagnosis is only sensible. I think it's great that you are going to be a doctor with an open mind to alternative holistic methods of treatment. Would that there were more like you.

With love

Hi Aurora!

Don't worry about offending anyone - I think many of us on here would give the same sensible advice. I certainly encourage my clients to see their GP if they are experiencing pain or other possible symptoms of illness. Welcome, by the way 🙂
