I've been doing aerobics my whole life. I'm 27 now and 14 weeks pregnant. I stopped exercising and decided to ride a stationary bike, in moderation ofcourse. I would ride 15 mins, make a break and then another ten. I felt great after two-three months of not doing any exercises and my body was ok with this activity.
However, when I asked my ob/gyn if this was OK, she said NO. I asked her to explain but she just told me NO.

From what I have been reading from different resources, doing some moderate exercise (appropirate for pregnancy) was ok and recomennded but she still said NO.

I work 8 hours sedentary kind of work and this activity does me good. I can't walk a lot because I get tired and my feet hurt. I am 12 lbs overweight and I have a vision problem that is not a big deal (-1.25).

Everything else seems to be in order with the baby and me. Do you have any ideas? Should I get a second opinion on the matter?

Thanks

Have you been trying to get pregnant for a while? Perhaps she is erring on the side of caution and does not want you to overexert yourself.
((I was teaching 3 aerobics classes per week until a few days before my eldest daughter was born!))

I was going to the gym till i was 5 almost 6 months but had to stop because my bump got too big however on a bicycle there is always a chanceyou may well overheat the foetus which is as i'm sure you don't need me to tell you extremely dangerous. You could also knock your bump with your knees which can knock the placenta off the place in your womb it is attacthed to which again is not good news. You could try doing something that isn't strenuous like walking for a short walk or speaking to your midwife about classes. Perhaps yoga? They do a special adapted version for pregnant women again so not to overheat and to avoid stretching too much.

Go to your doctor and ask for a second opinion explaining what you were told and how you want a better explanation other than no.

Good luck with the pregnancy as well 🙂

very odd! My doc said it was fine as long as I kept my heart rate (stupidly!) low.

I talked to the pregnancy bird at the gym and she made me a program of upright stationary bike, eliptical trainer and treadmill. On all of them I had to keep my heart rate below 140beats per minute. I wear a heart monitor.

it's hard to keep your heart rate down and sometimes you feel like you're barely moving but hey - better than nothing!

all that said, if my doctor told me to do/not do something I think I'd listen...... maybe;)

The best way to ask him. He knows your history.
