Found out i am pregnant around 7wks.. iv finally managed to get a doctors appointment in the uk , was just wondering what happens at that appointment other than another pregnancy test? i read some where that they do a cervix test, is that right? Am a little nervous about going.. dont know haha think its because its more out there, so to speak. Will i have to wait for my 12week scan? i know the date of my last period and thought u only get a scan before 12weeks if they didnt know when u are due?? Any one who can talk me thru the doctors vist will be very helpful 😀

Thank you.

Hiya...it was 8 years since I was last pg so things may of changed. All they did for me was take the dates of your last period, ask how you've been, maybe prescribe some folic acid tabs, and maybe have a feel of your tummy then they send your details onto the midwife team..I think...but I never had any tests of the cervix

They dont do a pregnacy test if you have done one at home, they are very accurate. They will take your lmp, last menstrual period and work out your edd, expecte date of delivery. They will ask some questions about your medical history and ask you how you are feeling. They may advise you about any medication you are taking if it is still safe to do so in pregnancy etc and they may advise folic acid as well. They will then refer you to the midwife who will contact you and arrange a more indepth meeting with you where you will get a lot of information, recieve youe maternity notes and be given much more detailed info on what to expect. This is usually done by 12 weeks. You usually have a scan at 12 weeks but this may vary depending on your area, your gp and mw can advise you further. If you have any questions they will answer them for you and put your mind at ease.
Not usually an internal examination required, no need but will feel your tummy in case further on than expected. Bloods usually taken by or after midwife visit, but this may vary depoendednt on area. They will check your bp also.

How exciting.
CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations!

No need to be nervous! I certainly didn't have a cervical scan! They did give me a pregnancy test even though i had taken a home test so some GPs may vary. You'll be referred to a midwife which is lovely because then you can ask all the questions you want and you'll be able to talk things through - very reassuring!

Enjoy! x.x.x.

They will also give you 'Emma's Diary,' which is a cross betweena basic book about pregnancy and a magazine, giving you a basic idea about what to expect from pregnancy and how it can affect your body, moods, relationships, etc. It's not a bad introduction 🙂

You would normally only be referred for a cervical scan if you go to the doc with a suspected miscarriage, or other worrying symptoms - some women have them if it is not the first pregnancy and there have been problems.
I've not heard of anywhere that does them routinely.

Congratulations!!

I told the receptionist why I needed to book in and I was referred straight to the midwife at 6 weeks pg so you might not even see a GP! I saw my midwife several times and also had my 12 week scan before I saw a GP because everything was routine for me and I knew my dates etc. I think I saw a doctor for the first time at 15 or 16 weeks.
