Hello,
I hope someone can give an alternative....
a colleague is in her 9th week of pregnancy and has contracted a urinary infection - the sample containing proteins and some white cells. (i don't know what this means)
she was prescribed some antibiotics which on the leaflet say they are contra indicated in pregnancy and the pharmacist said they would not have prescribed such medication to her.
Does anyone have any suggestions? i recommend drinking plenty water and maybe some citro-soda ( i don't know what it is called in uk, but it comes in granules and fizzes up and you drink plenty water with that.)
i also recommended she get a second opinion too.
she is very worried as it is her first pregnancy.
thanks
RE: urinary infections and pregnancy
Urinary tract infections can be common in pregnant women because the baby can press and squeeze the bladder and kidneys.
She should definately get a second opinion and certainly ask the first doctor what he is playing at.
Drink lots of water yes, it should flush the infection out. Some people say cranberry juice helps.
Hope she is feeling better soon.

Hiya
I would get her to call the doctor and she she has read the leaflet and spoken to the pharmacist and it says not to take in pregnancy and see if they can offer an alternative.

Just a quickie. Your kidneys are "processing for two" when you're pregnant so it's very common to get infections. However, if they're recurring or occur late in pregnancy, they can be the cause of premature labour. So seeing the doctor is really important.
Just so's you know.

Hi
You need to keep your water intake up, you can also take cranberry and carrot juice mixed which is very good at getting rid of the infection.
Your kidneys don't process for two during pregnancy the baby passes urine into the sac he is in it is all part of the amniotic fluid in which he floats, drinks it then passes it out again. as he is not eating any food as such he does not have a lot to process.
also have a bath everyday rather than shower, wear only cotton underwear. hope it clears up for you it can be very painfull.
