Hi
I am 37 weeks tomorrow, and now i have had enough of the discomfort. Does anybody have any suggestions to encourage baby to make an appearance sooner rather than later.
Also high energy foods? I remember being totally exhausted in labour with my first daughter i would like to be better prepared this time if poss.
At my check up on weds baby was 3/5 engaged, hopefully she will carry on that way too.
So does anybody have any words of wisdom that they could kindly share.

Lol we've all heard all sorts, funnily enough I've never been pregnant so not sure if they work. There's the have an orgasm, have a curry, drink plenty of fruit juice.
Off the top of my head, the only one I can actually think of is rubbing some lavender oil around your 'bump'.
Hope you have a quick and comfortable labour xx
hi lilyflower
It used to be suggested to have a bumpy ride in a vehicle - but there aren't that many places for off-roading - and it didn't help me! A good strong curry is also thought to help, but I'm sure there are those who would disagree. The babe will come when she is ready!
I found amazing to help through a relative's birthing process. Her labour (1st baby, at age 36) was only 6 hours and she was singularly relaxed about it all - when the authorities expected major traumas. It's very well worth finding a [DLMURL="http://www.aamet.org/search/search-aamet-members-test.html"]therapist[/DLMURL] who can teach your birthing partner how to do it and take you through the process. I downloaded a couple of reports on birthing help and had them with me as backup in case I was unsure of what wording to use, but hardly looked at it once she got going. It was absolutely brilliant. Wish I'd known about EFT when I was doing midwifery - but it hadn't been discovered then!
A very hot Americano pizza worked for my wife - twice!!
Don't know about the energy bit - I was exhausted both times!!!
I know late pregnancy is tiring, painful and frustrating, but 99% I do think the body is best left to it. Your uterus and cervix know how to prepare themselves, various processes are gradually occurring to Prepare your body for a hopefully straightforward delivery. I think trying to bring on labour, whether by induction/castor oil/reflexology/herbal remedies is not great tbh. Trust your body, rest, don't force it to deviate from it's well evolved function 🙂 natural mamas is a great forum with past threads on this topic, lots of mamas with a similar experience and a few helpful midwives too. Good luck! And feel free to ignore me if you like
Hi, lilyflower - I so agree with Naomij - It's difficult I know but I do believe best to wait if possible- i.e. both baby & you are ok.
Take care - whatever you decide- & let us know of the outcome 🙂

Hi
Thanks for the replies, i think i will give the curry and pizza a miss as i dont like spicy food not to mention the awful heart burn that i already have.
I know deep down that things are better left until nature takes its course, i just feel like it has been forever, and the heat adds to the discomfort but i guess it wont be long now anyway.
I will keep you posted when i have some news.

Good luck Lilyflower,
I've never been pregnant but have heard the last few weeks can be rather uncomfortable. I hope all goes well when baby does finally decides to make an appearance.
Love and Light
My sister was 1 week 5 days late and she tried pretty much ALL of the suggestions to bring on labour, and NOTHING worked. The baby will come when it is good and ready. 🙂 Also, at 37 weeks you are not full term, is it really a good idea to try to encourage the baby to come before full term? I've never been pregnant but I wouldn't recommend trying to bring on early labour.

37 weeks is full term.
I agree with the others that babies come when they are ready, and your body is ready. I am guessing its all over now and you are enjoy newborn cuddles:grouphug:
Raspberry Leaf tea is really good too, it tones the uterus and helps for a speedier labour.
Good Luck 🙂
No, i am still here waiting. walking like somebody who is 50yrs my senior. I have raspberry leaf tea, but i have been told i have left it too late, i am sure thats not right though?
I guess i was hoping that as baby is three fifths engaged that it wouldnt be much longer. my daughter was 8 days over and i am really hoping this one wont be the same.
37 weeks is full term.

Thank you mrsjkn, as I never had kids I just presumed that when my friends would say about 40 weeks I always presumed that 40 weeks was full term. 😉

It's all a question of terminology! Pregnancy is counted from the 1st day of the last menstrual period - that is usually 14 days prior to ovulation - and will last about 40 weeks. One can count more accurately if the date of conception is known, so that is when one can say pregnancy lasts 38 weeks, but the vast majority of people do not know. A leeway of 2 weeks either side of the due date is considered 'normal'. It is best not to wait more than 2 weeks overdue as the placenta may start to disintegrate and the baby loses its protective vernix oils on its skin.
At 37 weeks a baby is fully formed but usually needs to grow a bit more to make the first few weeks of less hazardous (in our evolutionary development). I would certainly not recommend trying to bring on labour before 38 weeks (2 weeks early). Personally I opted to expect a late delivery so I wasn't surprised when my three were 11-14 days late.
It is always best to allow he baby to make its arrival in its own time unless there is a medical reason for interfering.
It's tough waiting eh?
People said the funniest things to me when I went overdue with my second child, like:
'Are you still here?' - no, I'm just a figment of your imagination
'Should you be out?' - don't worry, I don't think the baby will pop out on the floor in front of you!
Chuckling kept me going through the physical discomfort. A very long walk helped bring on labour, although my partner did have to drag me the last few miles! I hope everything goes well. xxx
I realise this is a very old post and the baby will certainly have made an appearance by now, but in case any body else is looking for tips.
My first baby was very late and I had to be induced, this was not something I wanted to go through again with my second!!. I used reflexology throughought my third trimester, and as the due date was approaching my reflexologist changed the treatment to help prepare for labour - and I'm delighted to say my second baby arrived only 2 days late with no induction!!.
Reflexology was also wonderful to receive and helped me along the way, I wish I had had it the whole way through my pregnancy.
I found my reflexologists from the Association of Reflexologists website - Association of Reflexologists - Home - you can search on your postcode and know you are getting someone properly qualified!!
