Hi,
I am delighted to find that I am pregnant, very early days as only 6 weeks.:D
Can anybody offer any advice on which therapies and products I can still offer while I am pregnant?
There are so many contradictions on the net I dont know what to believe!
I know no essential oils so will no longer offer aromatherapy. Somebody also said I cannot perform hopi ear candling because they contain essential oils?
I have been told nothing too hot, i.e. baths, so does that mean I cannot offer hot stones massage to clients?
I have emailed my supplies of products for their advice but havent had the replies yet, my facial products are all Eve Taylor which contain oils??
I was also reading an article which said you should not give or recieve manicures or pedicures because of the toxins/fumes in the products and the nail polish. Pregnancy was not a contraindication when I was trained and surely this will make the expectany mother more relaxed and happy with her body!!
It's all so confusing.
Sorry for the essay, any advice would very much be appreciated.
Thanks
Hannah xx
Hi and Congratulations!!!!
I found out I was pregnant in my aromatherapy course however did not find out until 8 weeks pregnant so was using all the contraindicated oils for pregnancy i.e. rosemary. However as I was nearing my case studies I just used oils that were safe for pregnancy. You could still offer your aromatherapy...!
You could use unscented hopi ear candles ie just beeswax in them or just lavender ones.
To give you peace of mind wait until after your first trimester.
CONGRATULATIONS! 🙂
I just asked the once pregnant nail technician of the house what her thoughts were, and she said that when she was pregnant, the only thing she did not do was give pedicures and that was because of the posture that she would have to get into. As for the chemicals, be careful of nail polish remover, and if you are really concerned, you could make sure that all of your polishes are vegan, but no nail polish should cause any harm during pregnancy. I would personally stick with an all natural manicure if you have the option, but that's just because they are my favorite to perform 🙂
Hope that helps and congrats again.
Congrats lilacgirl, I would think it is safe for you to give hot stones, manicures and pedicures. The only thing you should be cautious with is aromatherapy, but most women they cant stand the smells anyway.
Congratulations!
I'm sure Hot Stones Massage will be fine from a temperature point of view - the advice is related to you not raising your body temperature too high, especially the abdomen, so sitting in hot baths, jacuzzis and saunas is out. Handling hot stones is fine.
Congrats to you!
As for hopi ear candling, the amount of whatever content you decided to use is so minimal. I'd be more worried if you had an allergy to any of the contents, but I'd say avoid any that would be harmful during pregnancy to be sure. This is the time to start pampering yourself! Have a look around the various forums on here, there will be lots of good info and you may find a treatment that you never considered before.
Certain essential oils are extremely safe and effective during pregnancy and are known to ease pain during . It should be taken about three weeks at a time during pregnancy and some of the most effective essential oils are corn silk, linden for headaches and chamomile for sickness, particularly during the morning. While most essential oils are safe, some of them could be a bit too powerful and cause some problems in the womb. It should only be taken in moderate doses as overdosage can cause harmful effects to the mother.
