Hi all, I wonder if you could help as I'm currently having problems with my cycle. My partner and I have recently decided to start trying for a family so I came off the pill in September (after 10 years on and off of taking it) and up until now my periods seemed okay.

This month nothing, I have had all the symptoms of getting a period from day 28 of my cycle, nows it's day 38!!! I did a pregnancy test which was negative so really don't understand what it happening to my body. I've never missed a period until now so I'm a little concerned.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello Crofty,

Your body may still be re-adjusting from the pill-taking.

Give it another month or so and if it's still not right, see yotur doctor.

Love,
Patsy.

Thanks for this songstress. You make it sounds so simple which, fingers crossed, it is. I just can't help but worry that there might be something not quite right. I know I mustn't but it's so unusual for me. Hopefully things will return to normal soon as we really want to try for a baby but if I'm not having periods what am I to do.

RE: Periods...or not!!

Don't panic, Crofty! Stress can do all sorts to our sensitive female bodies!

When I was on 'Marvelon' it didn't agree with me - mood swings, painful periods, etc. When I came off it, my periods were erratic for about six months. They eventually settled down. The doctor told me that the Pill 'kids' a woman's body into thinking that she is pregnant. When she stops taking it, the body has to re-adjust, just as if she has given birth. Your cycle needs to re-establish itself into its natural pattern and getting rid of the synthetic hormones can take ages.

Meanwhile, have fun trying for your baby, and relax and enjoy the experience of a real pregnancy!

Love,
Patsy.

Hi Crofty
Welcome to HP:D
I noticed in your post that you said you stopped taking the pill in september and you've had periods from september until now? hope that makes sense. If I understood it correctly then IMO I WOULDN'T rule pregnancy out just yet (as a negative result so early in pregnancy, doesn't mean your not pregnant).
A pregnancy test picks up a certain something (sorry can't remember what it's called) but sometimes in early pregnancy there isn't enough of that something for the test to pick up so it can give a negative result:eek: hope that makses sense.
I'm certainly not saying you are pregnant but I have had this through 3 of mine (& I was pregnant every time););)
Hope I've helped.
Please let us know how you get on:D:D

RE: Periods...or not!!

Firstly I have to say what a fantastic site this is. The advise is great and I must thank you both for taking the time to respond.

Just to keep you informed I did another test last night, just to be sure, and it was negative. I now truly believe that I’m not pregnant and it’s my body trying to re-establish itself after all those years of abuse from the pill!

It so true what people say though, we do take our bodies for granted until we want something, or we try and do something and then realise it’s more difficult than we first thought.

I’m a strong believer in what’s meant to be is meant to be so hopefully children is in my future. Fingers crossed eh!!

I will keep you posted.

Hi Amy, what was your outcome, or shouldn't I ask. I did go to the doctors and they just said see how things go and come back in April. Typical response from the doctors.

How are you now? I hope everything is okay?

RE: Periods...or not!!

Hi...in my case doctors brushed me off too[:@] But I had to get asertive with them....in the end (but this was after 2years of being ignored) I got tests which showed I had that I had POF (premature ovualtion failure or better known as early menopause[:'(])....nightmare as I was only 28....because it was left I also was 0.01 % of from ostioprosis (sp)..(bone loss)

This may not be the same for you so don't throw yourself in a panic, only 1 in 1000 women go through this but you must have all things looked into...you know your own body better then anyone...

I was gutted as at that time also wanted a baby....but to go down a wierd & wacky tale of postive thought, self medication & other stuff I somehow got fixed after 2 years & am now monthly again & also had a baby girl......doctors...what do they know[:'(]

RE: Periods...or not!!

Hi everyone,

Well today I had a blood test (I am scared stiff of needles and to wait over 1/2 hour for my turn didn't help). Reason why is that I have PCOS (poly-cystic ovary syndrome) I was diagnosed with it when I was 14 and since then I have spent most of my life on the pill to keep my cycles regular.

However, last year my pill was changed and I had side effets, so I gave myself a break. It is a year on and I have had no period for a WHOLE YEAR! No symptoms nothing. So I've been back to my doctor, who reckons something should have happened by now, hence the blood test.:(

So looks like I'll be back at the doctors in a fortnight to see what's happening and whether they decide to let me back on the pill. I'm not planning to have kids at all, but to be honest it's looking doubtful that I can have them anyway. My main concern is what will happen to me when I am due to hit the menopause, scary thought, but it is concerning me.

Oh well, that's life I suppose I just hope that all this doesn't affect my health in the future.[&o]

RE: Periods...or not!!

Thanks Amy,

I have heard of Verity. I've also got a couple of books about the condition as well. At the moment I'm not worried about fertility, as I said I'm not planning to have children at any stage of my life, however I would like to know if there are problems with my fertility incase it affects my body in general.

Sadly my PCOS is something that I've had for a large part of my life (I'm 28 now) and it's got to the point where I don't see the point in trying to improve the condition. I've tried losing weight, but am having problems from NOT being on the pill as it has made it very hard for me to lose weight. I work out regularly, but have had some probs eating the wrong kinds of food. its just one big vicious circle for me. I'm just trying to get on with life best I can.

I'm hoping I'll be back on some sort of pill in the next few weeks to help regulate things, which will make me feel normal again. I feel PCOS is only a major issue when people want to have kids and as that is extremely unlikely in my case, my main concern is whether it can cause any other problems.

Gemma xx 🙂
