Hey every one,

My baby boy is 6months and when he was a week old he spent a week in hospital because of a very bad UTI, hes been on antibiotics ever since, He had to have some very nasty tests done, and now has to have a operation, his foreskin is too tight so he needs to have a circumcision and when he wee's some of his wee flows back into the bladder as his valve doesnt let it all out, my question is..has any one elses baby had this sort of problem?

Iv been told that he will need to stay on antibiotics until hes potty trained, do you think this is bad? as surely antibiotics are for short term use? :S

Thanks in advance

Hello

Sorry to hear about your little chap and I hope he is going to feel better soon.

Regarding his operation it is a really simple operation and recovery is very fast.

The antibiotics will be given due to what the doctor thinks regarding the recent evidence available. You can though as the doctors what the most up to date evidence is regarding the use of antibiotics post surgery and can an antibiotic cream be used instead??

UTI's can though take the body a long time to recover and I wish your little chap a very speedy recovery.

From a mothers point of view my lad was born 10 weeks premature and was in intensive care for a while were he has antibiotics at first on a drip then medication. This seems to have left no lasting effects as children metabolise different to us adults. They do this faster than us that is why they seem to get better very fast. I do not want this next sentence to frighten you but Children heal fast and they can get sick just as quick so that is why they are maybe keeping him on a low dose antibiotic so his body can keep the level of infection to a low level.

I am all for natural preparation's but when it comes to children I tend to listen to the doctors and keep asking questions. It is your child and your right to get the doctor to give you the best advice from the latest research and evidence.

Love and Blessings

Sorry to hear your babe has such problems so soon. You may find that it all clears up pretty quickly once the cause of the problem has been dealt with. Then they might be able to leave off the antibiotics a bit sooner.

I would suggest a visit to a nutritional therapist who would be able to give you advice on suitable probiotics for him and helpful vitamin and mineral support for helping him over the period while his body is under such stress. One of our who specialises in children's health lives not a million miles from you and is excellent. It would be well worth contacting her.

Wishing you both all the best
