Hi I am researching the Lotus and Empowering Birth, has anyone experienced this 1st hand?
If you have I would be really interested in your stories, we are trying for our second child. Having a 10 year gap (being only 19 years old for the 1st one) I feel I can make a more informed decision for the next one and I am really interested in both of these areas.

Did not want to read and run!

In my 10 years as a community midwife only one person ever requested a lotus birth and unfortunatley this could not happen due to circumstances at the time. Personally, I can't imagine why someone would want to have rotting placental flesh attached to their baby for days until the cord separates! The smell!!!! 😮 I am sure essentail oils would not mask the smell.. I would also be concerned about potential ascending infection too... Once delivered the placenta has done its job therefore surplus to requirement. However, I do have a number of women who keep their placentas and put them in the garden under a new tree for their baby etc which is nice idea as the placenta is noursishing the plants new life... 🙂

As far as empowering birth, surely if you are well informed and make an 'informed choice' about your care you would be empowered? Home birthers (and many hospital births by choice) do this all the time!

I have not probably helped at all sorry!!!

Good luck in the practice of making number 2! 😀
