RE: HOW HEAVY WERE YOUR BABBIES ?

My first and only bchild so far. A boy Caleb. 7lb 11 and a half oz

Luckily I had a really good labour. Just 5 hours, and 20 mins from first contraction. I had Caleb at home, with just a little gas and air, which didn't actually do anything for the pain, just made me feel drunk. And at one point, I had too much and passed out briefly he he he.

It was a truly magical experience.

RE: HOW HEAVY WERE YOUR BABBIES ?

My daughter was 9lb exactly, and she was born after 17 hours of labour, lots of gas and air, and I had to be cut without anaesthetic, as there was no time for it to be given. It wasn't that bad, as the midwife told me that I needed to be cut as she did it, so by the time the word 'cut' registered, it was done! It just stung a little.

My son was, would you believe exactly 10lb, and born after 4 hours of labour, lots of gas and air again. Both children were born in the same room, with a view of Lincoln catherdral.

I didn't speak to anyone while in labour, only to answer the midwife's questions, and just concentrated on my breathing. I was very quiet, which I didn't expect!

I found the after care was excellent after both births. My daughter has to go on the SCBU after she was born, as she didn't breath when she arrived. She stayed there for a couple of days, and then we came home. That was really upsetting, as I wasleft on a maternity ward with all the other mothers with their babies, and I didn't have mine. I left hospital 2 hours after having my son.

My baby was 2lb 6. She is now 18 months old and I will always get a second opinion. I am sueing the nhs as I went in with contractions twice and was told I was imagining it. I was 30 weeks. The West Mid hospital have been so negligent that I refuse to go there. My daughter is the most important person in my life and I will never forgive them for her difficult start in life.

RE: HOW HEAVY WERE YOUR BABBIES ?

On gas and air - breathing it out straight into my husbands face - we were both stoned! At one point he told me he had to go and bring in the cows...... he was a naval officer at the time! When Ginnie came into the world I was on my hands and knees - hubby put her on the pillow in front of me and I remember saying "Oh, look, I've got a frog" - well, she looked like one!
Daughter 2 - born 1989 - also 6 days late - 10lb 7oz - 20 hour labour. I laughed through most of it (apart from passing the watermelon bit!) as I had been for hypnotherapy classes to help with pain control. I was in a cottage hospital - just one other new mum in the building. I was hyper-amnious (too much fluid) and when my waters broke I looked like 'Old Faithful' (geyser in Yellowstone). The

Jabba thank you for sharing and making me laugh - I think in pictures so your post was very graphic:D

My son Liamwas born 17 years ago today (21.2.90) 9lb 13oz - he had aHUGE head with cauliflower ears as he'd been so squashed.
Daughter Eilidh was 8lb 12 oz - born with a caul so had a perfect face - looked like a doll.

RE: HOW HEAVY WERE YOUR BABBIES ?

My son was 7lb8oz and was almost 4 weeks early (I am so glad he didn't go to term) he is now six. I had problems during the pregnancy and was in and out of hospital and was treated terribly - i think it was due to my age (17) I was treated like a waster no good teenage mum. The labour only lasted 1hour10mins and I only just made it to the hospital in time, I gave birth with no pain relief, because of the treatemnt I had prior to his birth I left once he was six hours old. I had wanted to breast feed but due to leaving hospital so early struggled to get it going, as my mum had no idea what to do as she hadn't breast fed and the midwives weren't interested who visited me at home.

If I ever have another it will be a home birth ~ as the midwives I had while I was pregnant and just after were terrible!

RE: HOW HEAVY WERE YOUR BABBIES ?

I had a home water birth and my daughter was 9lb 1oz - if you saw the size of me, you'd know that there is no justice in the world LOL!
I used hypnosis instead of orthadox pain relief and it got me through a 21 hour labour - it was an awesome experience. I'd recommend it to anyone 🙂

trouble it; it's like having a labrador for a child; I can't keep her out of water now (and she's a Pisces, so I guess that figures!)

amberjade - big (((HUGS))) coming your way. If your daughter ok now?

My daughter was born in 1979, with the aid of forceps as I had pre eclampsia, and two weeks early, and she weighed 6lbs 8oz. She is now a healthy 28 year old and is 6ft 1in tall.

My son was born in 1981, he was born normally, two days late, and weighed 9lbs 11oz. He is now a whopping 6ft 7ins tall!

RE: HOW HEAVY WERE YOUR BABBIES ?

Ello Everyone,

My first daughter was one week early 8lb 2oz, (1980)son arrived on time 10lb 2oz (1983)and my second daughter arrived two weeks early (thank goodness) weighing 10lb 3oz (1996). The other two children I had epidural hmmm ok know you dont spell it like that but Im sure you will know what I mean :o). But Alice arrived that quick...didnt have time......only had gas and air and it was wonderful.

While on the subject of baby weights....I have PCOS and was wondering if this could have anything to do with having bigger babies, due to PCOS being linked to insulin resistance hmm ohh well just a thought.

love & light

Christine :o)

RE: HOW HEAVY WERE YOUR BABBIES ?

Hello
My daughter was 8lb 1 oz. 4 hours 1 min 2 weeks late - induced
My son was 7lb 10oz. 3 hours 1 min2 weeks late - induced

They say I was not in labour for very long - I don't think so!
I was having contractions with my son from the Friday morning 5am until Saturday morning when he popped out at 2.42am - to my calculations that is not 3 hours 1 min!!! Initially I had a membrane sweep and it was horrific.

With my daughter they say 4 hours 1 min - again - what !!!!!! The midwife says I was in early labour for 6 days as I had a show and had lower back pain but was sent home - then 6 days later I had pains after having a pessary, then the pain stopped and then they induced me and I had to have my waters broken at 8.30am and she was born at 1.19pm. So where do they get their calculations from???

The midwife who delivered my daughter was lovely even there had been horrible stories about how aggressive she was - but I had a lovely experience with her. It was the aftercare that was not great - they were good with the breastfeeding though, it was not happening so I bottlefed.
With my son the midwife who delivered him was fantastic and again one of the midwives after said that I was breastfeeding incorrectly, so she made my son latch on to the end of my nipple!! WRONG!! I was bleeding and when they insisted I use a breastpump - bearing in mind this is the same day he was born - all that came out was blood! So breast was not best in my case.

I do have a lot of praise for the midwives that delivered me but the after care was appalling. The woman who was suppose to discharge me had gone home and I was hanging around waiting endlessley!! The community midwife that came to see me at home on both ocassions was fantastic though. 10/10.

So not a great experience but when a baby is born they melt your heart and it is all worth it in the end.

RE: HOW HEAVY WERE YOUR BABBIES ?

My goodness, some of you have had some big babies!

My 3 y/o son was 7lb. 12.7oz. when he was born.

After 16 hours of labor with no pain relievers (yes I am proud because I stuck to my guns!), I was afraid/upset because they took him away to the intensive care unit. He kept coughing and a little blood was coming out. Because we have the same blood type, they weren't sure if it was mine or his. It broke my heart. They had him all wired up and tubes everywhere... they even put him on anibiotics! I was against it, but I gave them permission cause I'm not a doctor and I didn't want to do anything to hurt him even more. They put some kind of scope down his throat to see if there was some kind of cut of some sort but they found nothing... so they let him come home with me on the 6th day.

I know some mothers have gone through much worse, but it felt like the end of the world to me! Since then he has been just fine, and as healthy as can be.

Mine were all tiny as they were premature. The eldest (now 7) was 10 weeks early and weighed 3lb 5oz, our 3 year old twins were 12 weeks early and weighed in at 2lb 10oz & 2lb 12oz. All perfectly normal and healthy after making such an early entrance!!

My daughter was 6lb 10 oz, three weeks early (she still cannot wait for anything) and my son was 10lb 12oz (ouch) on time, now 5ft 9ins and 6ft 4ins, 23and 21. Easy carry, labour, and birth for both.....and I'm only 5ft 2" by the way!! I was never told my son was such a big baby until the final stages of labour.....and guess what.....at that stage i already realised LOL.

R.e How Heavy Were Your Babies

Hey!
My son was born after 32 hours of labour weighing 8lbs 15oz... quite big seeing as me and my partner were only 7 pounders when born! I had a 3rd degree tear and had about 40 odd stitches! Still painful 2.5 yrs later! I would like another baby soon but I'm a bit worried 'cos they say the next are bigger! But I dunno if I truly believe that - yet! hehe 🙂

all mine were at the seven to 7.10 mark the last one was the smallest but the worst to have facing the wrong way, head down but wrong, just a tad painful but the thought of a c section got her out, right little madam she is.

1st was 6lb 7oz gas and air, went home after 5 days as health visitor insisted I stayed in because I was a single mum.

2nd born at 35 weeks, 4lb, because of pre-eclampsia, spent 12 days in SCBU because she was jaundiced. Had to have an epidural because of blood pressure and not able to move around because of all the machines + anti convulsant drugs.

3rd induced because of pre-eclampsia again, they insisted I would be fine to deliver naturally tho I had a low lying placenta. It ruptured so had to have an emergency c-section and lost 4 pints of blood. Baby born weighing 4lbs 4 and both home in 2 days. Husband has had vasectomy as doesn't want me going through the above again

my (not so) little girl was 10lb 8oz wen she was born! she was 12 days late. i was due to be induced at 4pm on the 6th dec, but at 4.15am on the 6th, my waters broke just as i was about to go to sleep! she always has had to have the last say! lol
she's 2yrs and 8mnths now and still stubborn, lol.
i read in earlier posts that they gain 1lb for each wk they are late, is that true??
i coulda had a 8lb baby instead of 10lb????? LOL we had a bet on at work on how big she was goin to b. the closest was 9lb lol. ppl were guessing 8lb cos i was 8lb 2oz wen i was born - 2 wks late! lol
she's still big for her age tho, taller than pretty much every 2.5-3 yr old i have seen, and she wears 3-4 yr clothes.
labour from waters goin was just under 6hrs 45 mins, and i couldnt get her to go to sleep at all that night and i got no help from mw's or anyone. i wouldnt want to stay overnight next time!

Oh dear! I have to cast my mind back!

1st (now 36 years old!) Boy 10lb 7oz. Now 6 feet tall. Size 12 shoes!
2nd (now 27) Girl 10lb two weeks early. Only 5ft 6ins much to her disgust!
3rd (25) Boy 10lb 12oz only a couple of days early and the easiest birth of the lot! Now 6feet 6ins and size 13 shoes!
4th (23) Boy 10lb 7oz and three weeks early! 6foot 1inch and size 14 shoes!!

There was not a lot of chance of any of my babies being small as both my husband and myself were big babies as well. Both well over 10lb.

The trouble is, when they are bigger people think they are older and wonder why they cannot do things. For instance, people kept asking me how one of my sons was getting on at school. I pointed out that he was only just 2 years old and they looked so surprised!

my brother is just 19 and he is about 6.4ish, and he wears size 14 shoes! lol. he was 8lb 13oz wen born, also 2 wks late!
imagine if some of urs were late or on time! mine was over 10lb but nearly 2 wks late. but i think she was so big because i didnt exactly eat properly wen preg as i was working all the time, so it was a lot of fast food after work which was about midnight.
it was a bit of a shock for me tho! as i sed i was 8lb 2 or 3 oz, 2 wks late and my oh was 7lb something so we werent really huge, lol
next time, ill be eating a lot better cos i dont work where i did anymore so hopefully even tho 2nd is meant to be bigger, it wont be as big! lol

i know wot u mean tho. me n my mum were in a garden centre a couple of months ago and a bloke there asked my lil girl if she was "goin bk to school tomorrow", my mum then sed shes only 2.5, and he looked shocked! lol

Mine was 6lb 5oz at birth - 4 weeks prem. Labour was horrendous. Was in hospital for 3 days before birth and 4 days after as he was in the SCBU. Labour was around 2.5 days, I was in so much pain and they said I wasn't having contractions ? Now he's 19 months old and 26lbs.

Would like another one but waiting a year or so.
