Hi - Could anyone advise me as to whether it is essential to take vitamin supplements during pregnancy (apart from folic acid) - I would prefer to get the required nutrients from food but i know that it is not always possible to do this - I am intolerant to wheat and dairy, amongst other things so would it be really harmful to my developing baby if i have dairy? (Worried about lack of calcium in my diet...)
Not sure what is best; any advice appreicated

Hi Seeker,

Good sources of calcium include green vegetables, almonds, sesame seeds or tahini, cow's milk, tofu, cheese, yoghurt, wholegrain cereals and pulses.

So its probably quite easy (!!) to eat around your intolerances and still get calcium.

I got this from searching calcium vegetables on google, hope it helps.

Love, Luck and happiness

RE: Food intolerances / vitamins

you'll usually know if you need supplementing as you won't feel well. after the intial 10/12 weeks of pregnancy you shouldn't feel tired or ill. morning sickness is usually an indication of deficiencies. pregnancy is not an illness and, in this day and age, you should feel pretty good most of the time. ther e are, however, many excellent formulations out there especially for pregnant women, just make sure they are food state and organic (if possible) and you 'll be fine.
