Hi all

My wife is 5 months pregnant. I'm reading a lot of warning notices advising pregnant women not to use essential oils, in fact this seems to apply to almost every oil.

For example on this page it says "should be avoided altogether during pregnancy unless under the direction of a physician"
[DLMURL="http://www.bareessential.co.uk/store/clary-sage-essential-oil-uses-and-benefits.html"]Clary Sage essential oil uses and benefits | BareEssential.co.uk[/DLMURL]

Is this just the companies covering their backs, or is there a real issue with using essential oils whilst you're pregnant?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Clary Sage is a no-no during pregnancy - but can help during labour . I do know there ARE oils that are safe to use in pregnancy- but that is about as far as my limited knowledge takes me. I am concerned enough to make sure you DO take the Clary sage warning seriously tho.The best thing to do is consult a qualified aromatherapist..Hopefully one will see your post and give you some advice

Clary Sage can cause contractions – not a good idea until labour! Avoid also:
Nutmeg, Rosemary, Juniper, Basil, Sage

Assuming a non-problematic pregnancy there are several oils that are safe to use. First and foremost is Lavender. Others that could be used include German Chamomile, Neroli, Ylang-ylang, Eucalyptus, Geranium.

When I was pregnant, I did a lot of online research about the use of essential oils. I think this is one of the best resources...
