Hi ladies.
I had a scan at 35 weeks only to discover baby was breech! I've managed to put off having another scan until 38 weeks but the hospital have already started suggesting turning the baby and c-sections and things which I would prefer to leave til the last minute incase he turns the right way! I understand that after 37 weeks it's unlikely he'll turn if he hasn't already but I also understand it's not 100% guaranteed that he wont turn and that I definitely need a section.
Has anyone got experience of a breech baby turning at the last minute? The idea of a c-section scares the life out of me!!
hi seashells,
my daughter (first baby, many years ago, lol she'll be 23 this year!) was breech. i also had high blood pressure, so was in hospital for 2 weeks before she was born.
i think alot depends on your consultant/ obs. mine favoured natural birth (a woman!), the men would have done a C section there & then.
the baby's legs were extended though (up by her ears) and i was allowed to go for a natural labour, very closely monitored, under an epidural (which i dont think worked much... youch!). if her legs had been flexed, then i'd have had a C.
there are many old wife's tales about mopping floors on all fours, rocking like that etc, which cant hurt to try! there are also acupressure points that can encourage baby to turn. i do maternity reflexology and learnt techniques on the feet, so you could try and find a qualified in maternity matters therapist or acupuncturist.
i would also say though, that babies tend to do what they like, before and after :), so, even if he turns now, naturally or with medical intervention, he could turn back.
scary as a C section may be, just think of how lovely it will be to be holding your new born son :). good luck, hope it all goes well!
Hi,
My second son was breech right up till 38 weeks then turned, because of a past problem I had an elective CS with no problems. It was not being able to drive for six weeks I found the hardest!
Good luck,
Teresa
I think I'm just not good with hospitals or medical procedures in general and this is what's making me nervous. Have been told to keep my fingers crossed and scrub floors - my house is spotless 😀
Thank you for the replies. 37 weeks yesterday and counting!
Hi Seashells
It's many years since I did midwifery, but with all the equipment available nowadays one can surely tell from the size of the baby whether a natural birth is possible or whether a CS is necessary. I have delivered breech babies with little problem, but the size of the pelvic canal compared to the baby's head is all-important, but the midwife should have explained all this.
They must have it all in hand - and yes, it's possible to turn the babe, but it might turn back anyway. That has to be done before it 'engages'.
Whatever the outcome, I wish you well and the joyful arrival of your little one.
Hi there, wouldn't raise your hopes falsely, but sometimes, homeopathic remedies can result in a breech baby turning. It might be worth ringing a local homeopath and discussing this to see if you could have one appointment- you have nothing to lose. Good luck. Hom
Had my scan today at 38wks + 1 and so far so good - he's turned! Going back for another scan next week if he isn't already here but it's a huge weight off my mind! Thank you all for the support/advice x
my daughter was the same i did have to have a breech baby be careful about them trying to turn the baby it's a knack not all of them have, my daughter moved a few times just before 37 weeks but went back to breech posistion so eventually had the c section tho it's sooo worth it enjoy ur baby congratulation hope all works out ok
Delighted to hear he has turned and at 38+ weeks it's unlikely he'll turn again - is the head engaged? hope all goes well from now on

He's still quite high up and showing no signs of shifting anytime soon. I was convinced he'd be here early. Maybe I'm going to be proved wrong!
