Hello
I wondered if there is anyone who can offer some suggestions, I am really struggling in the last few days of pregnancy at the mo, I am havng my second back to back, sporadic labour and the baby is hitting my sciatic nerve so not a lot of sleep etc at the mo. The problem is that I have been in early labour for days and days and for hours and hours at a time but they are having no affect on cervix (sorry is that too much info) and baby in wrong place to trigger hormonal bit - anyone got any ideas of natural approaches to strengthen contractions or thin cervix? Sam x

Sam,

I know you originally posted in Aromatherapy, but I have moved your post as I think you may get more responses.

I think your best bet is to find a maternity trained reflexologist who should be able to help you.

Hoping that your discomfort ends soon and that we are hearing some good news!!

H i Sam
Lesley is right you need a reflexologist to help you out. if she is not a midwife reflexologist tell her to concenrate on your pituitary, strong ankle boogies, spleen 6 point and bladder 60 point they all need strong pressure also the rectum and colon.
It usually works well for me hope this will help you must be really fed up.
best of luck

Just a thought is this baby a big baby? does it feel bigger than your last one? if so It may have difficulty in getting into your pelvis to press on your cervix. Ask your midwife what she thinks.
best wishes Glynis

RE: Any suggestions?

Hi,
My sister-in-law had a back to back, I was with her the whole labour and I can appreciate how much more painful it can make the pregnancy and birth. But she did recieve acupuncture (on her ankle points bladder 60 and another but i don't know which) and her baby turned during the labour and she was able to deliver normally!

Personally I have found acupuncture to be invaluable for my last two births, and I know is especially good at strengthing contractions and making the whole process more smooth and effective.
All the best,
Silverdawn.

This can be the hardest and most frustrating time. If the baby is posterior (back to back) forward leaning positions are the best - knee to chest with thighs/knees open as wide as possible for as long as you can (20-30mins) This will give the baby more room to turn and hopefully take the pressure off your sciatic nerve. Once the baby shifts and the head puts more pressure on the cervix then labour should get going. But the key is turning the baby so 'he's' in the best possible position - lots of hands and knees etc. And babies can turn during labour too. Good luck !!

Hi
Using acupuncture on Kidney 6 turns OP position babies. It's not very well known, but if you can find an acupuncturist to treat you very soon, and they don't know how to turn an OP baby, you could mention this point and assure them it was told to you by a professionally trained acupuncturist!
Good luck!

RE: Any suggestions?

hi everyone -thanks for the advice!
I think I will give reflex a go as a needle phobic [:-]. Have been working on turning the baby but she slides back like slow motion and that in in itself can be painful bless her, definately bigger I can't get over my bump size in comparison to first child.

As for my midwife- dont go there - with a 3 week waiting list for an appointment I have insisted on seeing a doctor at the hospital next week! I'm grateful this is my second child I wonder how a new mum to be would 'weather' with these circumstances under my assigned midwifes care I must admit! The Midwifes at the hospital have been brilliant though so at least when I go there I do feel safe and listened to. Will keep you posted!

Many thanks Sam x

Hi Sam,

You poor thing - you have my sympathy believe me! My friend Stacey's baby was back to back and her reflexologist burnt some incense stuff over one of her little toes and the baby turned. Sorry to be so unspecific but she wasn't exactly sure what it was either. My other friend has just had the exact same problem and treatment and it worked for her too. I'm not a reflexologist so maybe one of the other guys out there might have an idea what this is called?

Good luck honey!

Hello everyone - Glynis you are an angel!!!

It worked!!!!!

Yasmin Lily was born on Monday at 3.15pm weighing 8lb 12.5oz and is gorgeous.

Reflexology kick started everything but it all kept going this time and then once established it was an extremely fast labour!!!

Best wishes Sam xx
