Hi Caster,

I am assuming all went well then, congratulations!

As a midwife i recommend 4-6 drops of lavender oil in a bath. Lavender has antibacterial qualities and is also soothing. As far as salt is concerned, unless you want to put a whole bag of salt in the bath every time don't bother!

In the first couple of weeks use maternity pads and not fancy pads such as Always with the absorbant cores or plastic backed. They don't let air circulate to allow healing and can make you itch and get sore.

Other therapists may suggest other things which also may be useful

I was recommended Badedas Bath oil by a midwife for my stitches. Think it contained chestnut. It really helped and was soothing. You can buy it from a supermarket and is around £4.99.

Hi, Congratulations

Have you tried Hypericum? Homeopathic remedy - Helps with - Painful cuts and wounds. Lacerated wounds involving nerve endings.

You can get it from a good chemist stocking them or google homepathic remedies and a couple of companies pop up. I have used Helios for years, they are helpful and quick!

Good luck

Hi, thanks for all the replies.

The area which has been stitched is extremely painful and is now swelling. Is this normal?

How long ago was the op?

I would suggest getting it looked at - especially if it starts to become hot and red...

The op was on the 27th Feb. Is the midwife a good person to get this checked by?

WOW just three days ago - I hope you have help at home.

If she is on her way round yes I am sure she could advise you - otherwise see if a doctor could pop round and have a look, better to be safe.

I have never had a c-section, I am sure you would get swelling but if it is getting worse get it checked.

Good luck

The midwife may well be calling in daily - our local one does. In the meantime, when I had stitches in the olden days, my sage midwife suggested that I fill a rubber glove with water and freeze it. I was then able to break off a finger and wrap it in another plastic bag and sit on it. It may sound odd, but it was bliss on my poor swollen parts!
