Hi,
Have just been told our baby has a 1-25 chance of downs. I know this is high.
I was just wondering if anybody else has gone through this??
Olli
Hi,
Yes we have gone through this. We were told by a medical professional that statistcially we were high risk, similar to you. However it was all text book stuff.
The first thing we did was book a scan at a private clinic where they measured nuchal fold, take blood tests for specific markers beforehand and do a very comprehensive scan. They then gave us the result in one go.
I can't remeber the exact result but it was something like 1 in 1800.
I don't know if you have been down this route already and your 1 in 25 is the conclusion but if you haven't you should.
Thanks for that, i will ask about everything at the hospital tomorrow.
Many thanks Olli
I hope your appointment at the hospital gives you all the information you need, and reassures you a little.
I think there are 2 things you need to think about:
1. A 1 in 25 chance of your baby having downs means that there is a 4% rsik - so if 100 babies were born to mother's with this level of risk, only 4 of them would actually have it.
2. Being prepared is half the battle - if you are ready to accept a child with downs into your life, then if it actually does happen then you will be much more ready for it. Sometimes it can be worse to only find this out after the birth.
Im sure at your appointment they will talk you through all the tests etc you could choose to have if you wanted to know for sure, so I wont go into it here.
I just wanted to say Im thinking of you, be strong ((hugs))
