I wonder if anyone has this problem and how they cope with it?
I have had pain in my lower jaw on and off for the past 6-8 weeks. It 'roams' along my lower jaw/ear/lower teeth without settling on anything. The pain when it flares up is excrutiating and even the strongest pain killers only takes the edge off for an hour at the most. Hot/cold food and drink can set it off. Even just rubbing along my jaw-line can set it off. I have been to see a dentist who took an xray of my back lower teeth . She couldn't see anything wrong other than a very small shadow which she said did not relate to the amount of pain I have been in. I have been on two courses of quite high doses of antibiotics but still the pain flares up. At the moment I am lucky to go one day pain free! I'm seeing the dentist again on Tuesday as she has asked another senior dentist to look at my xray as my symptoms are not matching anything in my mouth. I have looked up TN pain and my symptoms seem to fit. I am the right age, female and it is only on one side of my face, normal painkillers do not touch it.
So, has anyone else have this problem and how do you treat it please?

It could be trigeminal neuralgia. A good friend suffered this for about 7 years, took his own bodyweight in pain killers (with no effect) and finally underwent a small surgical procedure with a neurologist who freed the nerve and he has been pain free since. He said that his pain used to feel like someone had his head in a vice, and the pain would radiate from just beneath his ear - around his cheek to his nose, eye socket, lip and to the tip of his chin. It would go up the temple and down his neck - any movement was impossible whilst having one of these 'spasms'. He tried everything (I was one of his therapists at the beginning) but surgery was the only relief - even then the neurologist admitted it may not work, but thankfully it did.
Incredibly painful for you - ask to see a consultant.

So sorry to hear you have this problem. I have a colleague at work who unfortunately has the same thing and so far itseems to havefoxed the NHS here as to how to deal with it, sorry to say. I hope you have better luck and am sending you Reiki healing for this.
I was wondering whether EFT might help at all?May beworth a try? It certainly has neuropathy down as one of the things it can help. You can get a free download manual from here:

Thank you for your concern. How are you feeling today? I am actually an EFT practitioner and only yesterday was standing in my kitchen tapping away while cooking dinner lol! It did take the edge off I must admit so today I am going to put aside some time to do a 'proper' session. Tut Tut, we therapists are terrible at treating ourselves lol!

Thank you too JTH. I am an ex-dental nurse (first job when I left school) and when this pain was not settling anywhere in particular I started to wonder if it could be this. Mine is mandibular, runs along the jaw bone on theleft side, into my ear and under the last three back teeth. The doctor has checked out my ear but can't find anything wrong, the dentist can't see anything obvious on the xray so it is looking more and more like TNP.I will discuss this with the dentist tomorrow but I think she is thinking along those lines herself.

I didn't know you were an EFT practitioner - I hope it helps. The lady at work is booked in to go to a pain management clinic next month, but she will not be aware about EFT. I have mentioned it before to her but she didn't seem keen.[:-]

Many thanks for asking. I suppose I do feel a little better and am off to see the Dr soon. He was pretty good last time. These anti-viral tablets minimise the effects but they are pretty costly - I'm glad I only pay the usual prescription charge, although that's pretty dear these days.:D
Hope you get your TGN sorted soon. I'll be thinking of you. What a right pair we are, eh?

The other option is that you <might> have taken a knock to the teeth/jaw and injured a nerve and it is regenerating.
I ate a hockey ball in the mouth and lost the nerves in some teeth. which I have had root canals on.
but one of them started to regenerate and it hurt like a really painful thing. 🙂
for about a fortnight. was told that some of the time a nerve just dies and regernerates.
