I can't remember things that happened more than a few years ago. I can remember what I've learned, but not how I learned it. I can't recognize most people if I haven't seen them in more than a few years, and most of what I do remember is what I've been told or can see in pictures.
Don't know of anything traumatic, and it's been like this as long as I can remember 🙂 Not trying to be funny there, really. I kept alot of journals growing up, thank goodness. When I read them it's like reading a strangers book. I took a vacation in 2000 to Hawaii, and made a photo/journal combo to record the trip. Good thing, cause I don't remember a lick of it. I look over my yearbooks every few years to try an jog a memory, they just get foggier and foggier.
I really didn't experiment too much as a youngster with drugs...does anyone know what might be wrong? Or have anything similar?

RE: Memory woes

I've been like that for most of my life. Even at school, despite being alledgedly bright - I didn't do to well. It was only as a mature student that I had improved my general health thru diet, meditation, etc., that I did a degree in osteopathy as a mature student.

Along the way I realised that I coudln't retain anything that I wasn't passionate about, and the other way I learnt to retain stuff was to understandthe big picture. If I could understandthe whole concept then I could figure out or relate to the smaller details.

My memory is now better than ever, which I attribute to being desensitised to a whole load of food and other allergies thru NAET. The diet I mentioned was largely based on avoidance of many of the worst offenders, although I accept the problem was with me & not the foods, etc.

As mine had been a problem from such an early age, then I doubt that I'll ever get a job in a circus as Mr Memory, as I suspect that the critical time in development of the appropriate areas of the brain. The consulation being that my old guru often said that the greatest gift to mankind was the ability to forget!

I do accept that modern life & society does put certain pressures on us to function within the realms of the norm, so here are a few ideas on improving memory;

  • Regular mental & intellectual challenges in life.
  • Don't avoid responsibility
  • Get yourself checked/treated for any allergies - electro dermal screening / NAET
  • Physical activity to stimulate the circulation and get reconnected withyou body
  • Love, life & laughter - memory is intricately tied to emotions, so live them.
  • If not on any medication - look into Gingko Biloba to improve brain microcirculation.

Andrew.

RE: Memory woes

Thanks Andrew. Sounds like you know what I'm talking about 🙂 Diet has helped, I'm more in tune to what I need and when. That has also brought more clarity to my mind. And I'm learning that if you can't remember everything (which I don't think any of us can) hopefully I'm remembering all I need, y'know? Thanks for putting your experiences up there, I was beginning to wonder[&:]
