A client has been referred to me suffering from Huntingtons. He resides in a nursing home and in the latter stages of the disease, sadly with virtually no mobility or verbal communication. I have suggested gentle head, hand and foot massage would be beneficial, to reduce physical tension and spasms, but also to allow the client to experience the sense of touch, comfort and stimulation. I would welcome any comments or suggestions.

I would start with hand massage, incorporating the forearm. I treated an elderly gentleman with HD, and he hated anyone touching his face or head - even the care staff found it difficult to wash him. However, after a few short sessions of hands only I asked him very quietly, for his permission to touch his cheek - he agreed so I gently reached up and stroked his cheek. He visibly relaxed, and thereafter I was able to incorporated a few very gentle stroking movements to his head and face. Treatment time was rarely longer than 20-30 minutes. He was a lovely old man, and his family were great.

Your reply is much appreciated... and so moving and positive.
I hope I am able to built up such a relationship with my client,so that he can 'let me in' and allow me the privilege of helping him.
