Can you please advise me on what scans I should ask for?

I'd really appreciate some help on this, any input at all. I suffered a viral illness that crept into my brain over a year ago, which was, how shall we say, not the most pleasant experience to go through. I've been to neurologists and I've had an MRI, but there was a long delay in getting a diagnosis; the recent MRI I got has come back "normal", which is frustrating to me, given that I have to live with the headaches, brain fog, fatigue, and permanently damaged vision. I've also had a "visual evoked potential" (VEP) test, which to my shock came back "normal". I mean, my vision is absolutely disastrous (my eyes themselves are physically fine) so I thought the VEP would surely detect some damage. But it didn't.

So now I'm left with the question: is there any other test, perhaps a SPECT scan or EEG, that might be able to pick up some sign of the damage? Can anybody suggest what the next step might be? I'd really appreciate it, it's important to me to get some physical evidence for this.

Hi. May I ask why physical evidence is so important? I ask only because my partner is in a similar position, having had every test that her neurologists can come up with. None of the results show anything untoward.
This is not uncommon. Many things that happen in the brain do not have physical evidence. Her main neurologist says that about 50% of his patients never get a clear diagnosis.

Hi there,
As a homeopath I see many people who have health problems and yet no test they have, shows anything other than 'normal' results. I believe that there is so much more to health/ill health than black and white test results. We have so much more to understand...

However, I appreciate your frustration and distress when you've been unwell and it still seems unresolved. I would strongly recommend that you visit a complementary therapist that appeals to you and he/she will help you to put this spell of ill health behind you.

Thank you for the replies, and my apologies for taking so long to respond.

Crowan, I would rather not delve into all of that right now if you'll forgive me.

At this point I have resigned myself to the high probability that no test will show evidence of neurological dysregulation--but if there is anything anyone here can think of that I should try, please lend me your suggestions.

@hom: thank you, I agree with you.
