I have recently injured my C2 nerve...
If you can imagine going to sit in a chair that you would sit in several times a day and not bracing your self for the sit, why should you you trust the chair, and my bottom hadn't even touched the chair yet. My neck came blunt on with a solid wooden book shelf hanging on the wall behind where I was about to sit.
After verifing that I hadn't fractured my spine, but that I have badly hit the C2 nerve. I am in my 6th week of recovery and do not feel any more better today than I have sinse 2 days after my accident. I go to physio daily and my family dactor wants to start doing cordisone injections on Friday. My physio therapist had recomended an MRI.
My symptons are all over the place;
1- I have extremly bad head aches
2- My vision in pour/non in my left eye
3- My face, head, shoulder, upper left backside and my left arm are numb for the most part.
4- I loose train of thought easily and forget alot.
5- Left ear feels like I have an ear infection. Bubbles and cracks like it's full of fluid
6- My head wabbles uncontralably
7- I can not stand pressure on my head, back and left arm, it flares up my head aches and tignling sensations.
8- Pressure, I feel so much pressure in my head, face, neck and shoulder....
There's much more, I start feeling like I'm going crazy trying to explain it all.
I guess I'm trying to feel better about recovery. I feel like the professionals haven't been too straight with me when talking about recovery. I'm just now learning that my injury could cause some major long term effects on me and my life!!!
I'm looking for some hope and possitivity. If any one feels like sharing information related to my injury, it may help me understand some things I'm going through. I really don't feel so hot about how I'm going to feel at the 12 and 26 week state if I am the way I am now at 6 weeks.
Hiya
I can appreciate that you are frustrated,a as recovery can sometimes be slow. Have you been referred to a physio or osteo for assistance? I would have a word with your GP or specialist and ask if there is anything else or if there is a practitioner you can see if you feel there is more that can be done.
Just remember though, they are doing their best and depending on the nature of the injury you will need to be very cautious and take things slowly, as rushing can sometimes be the biggest set back.
The symptoms you describe are all said to be linked to cervical spine injury or impingement, so you may see some change as you recover.
If you feel they haven't been clear with you, please get in touch with them and ask for clarification. It may be slow, but there will be improvements, obviously I'm not qualified to say how much and wouldn't be able to even without seeing you, but unless they have said it's hopeless, there is hope and often people do recover fully.
Gussie, Thank you
yes I do go to physio daily. I see him more than I see my family doctor.
I know I have to go through the steps of recovery but I'm such a go getter and I had a bad break down on Friday, just past, about the uncontrolled portion of my symptons. Talking about it helps as I feel like a big nusense to my family. Everyone has been very good with me however I still feel like when my husband and I go somewhere and I've just had enough, a head ake will come on or my neck back and shoulder really start to hurt, I feel I've let him down beacause I just want to go back home to rest. On the other hand I get frustrated with my self because I've had so much rest.... I guess I'm just feeling really anoyed with the whole thing.
I love my job and my co-workers. I feel like I'm missing out on lots at work. My kids haven't had my attention like they did 6 weeks ago.... I know time will convey but how much time!!! I had so much on the go and now life has brought me to a complete hult... I'm really scared of depression setting in...
Like I said, I like to talk about it cause it makes me feel a pinch better... I apreciate your response...
Here is something about neuralgia that comes from C2!
MoMoFtwo,
I have some of your symptoms: 3, 5, 7 and 8 but on the right side of my neck, head, ear and shoulder.
I have also diagnosis neuralgia occipital, that comes from C2.
Maybe that helps a bit?
Occipital Neuralgia:
This condition is believed to be due to irritation to the main sensory nerve in the back of the head; (that which supplies all of the skin and pain sensitive structures in the upper neck and back of skull). It is believed that this irritation may be caused by tightness in the muscles, joints or ligaments of the upper neck, thereby putting pressure on the nerve itself and causing it to become irritable and painful. Neck injuries, postural strain, and viral infections are amongst a number of other potential causes of irritation to this nerve.
The pain has been described as a continuous aching/throbbing in the base of the skull, and back of head, with occasional referral (pain travelling) into the forehead/face regions. Occipital neuralgia- like most other types of headpain; needs to properly diagnosed, and all causes identified. Treatment of this condition should be aimed at eliminating causes through the appropriate therapies/advice/medications, and allowing nerve irritation to subside.
Serious causes should always be excluded through professional examination and diagnosis.
Neck problems may contribute to Headaches and Migraines, so it is important to have them professionally addressed. It is also important to investigate for other potential causes, as many cases of Headaches and Migraines have more than one ingredient.
