My friend is suffering severely with the above and having very little success with conventional healthcare. Can anyone make any recommendations as to types of therapies that are most appropriate for either treating such problems or at least alleviating her pain/migraines/numbness/muscle spasms/weakness/fatigue etc?

Many thanks

Sara

Well it sounds lke occipital nerve (greater or lesser), rather than the optic. These nerves fan out over the occiput (back of the skull) from the top of the neck.

Like any similar neuralgia eg sciatica, trigeminal neuralgia, this is not just a trapped nerve but an inflammed nerve. It can be treated accordingly, so choose your therapist!

Thanks kvdp. I thought she said 'optical' but also thought that didn't sound right considering the symptoms she spoke of, hence the '?' 🙂

She has been seeing all sorts of specialists for weeks. Earlier this week she had to be admitted to hospital and given morphine because it was so bad. However that's just treating the symptoms and not the cause, so she is back home, still in pain and now feeling sick as the drugs come out of her system.

I know we have established previously the importance of finding a practitioner with a holistic approach. I also know that osteopathy is your field. Would this be good for her? As I could give her the same recommendation that I've had. Or are there other types of therapies that may be better suited to her situation? Since we are both currently signed off work with similar problems I'd like to be able to make some suggestions to her that may help.

Many thanks,

Sara

From a practitioner's POV I would want to discuss the details of the case in person before deciding in what ways I could help, but personally I would not exclude taking on such a case by any means. Hence I would suggest your friend ought to contact the practioner concerned and have a chat, if she's up for it.

So your osteopath would be a good place to start, especially if you have had a good experience there already, that's the best kind of lead, frankly.

Thank you once again. I will pass this on to her as I know she is so keen to find some relief.
