Hello,
I thought I would join this forum as I have an appointment in May to see a rheumatologist. I've just had blood taken to test for rheumatoid arthritis and lupus 🙁

Feeling a bit low at the moment and worried about the diagnosis.

Hello Iolanthe - Welcome to Helthypages  Lots for you to catch up on and discuss.

It sounds like you are suspected of having auto-immune problems. It appears this type of problem often starts in the gut with imbalanced bacteria or severe intolerences to certain foods your body struggles with usually over some time, often years. One ends up with feeling 'under the weather' and symptoms all over the place. You are suspected even of hypochondria! Eventually something does actually break down and cause an illness and the doctors say 'Ah, this is probably ... so you must have a test to prove it'. Like as not, tests prove nothing, and you are sent home to 'sort yourself out' or 'live with it'. Been there, done that and got the teashirt.

So where does this leave you? Like as not, feeling depressed because no-one believes you, feel miserable because you are not well and no-one knows why. Depression can become a side effect - so they say 'Oh well, it's the depression that has caused you to think you are ill'. Am I wrong? If I am please forgive me - but that is what I had to deal with for years.

There is an excellent book, see here, that might just give you some answers the medics don't understand (not taught in Med School). It is written by a biochemist and Nutritional Doctor. It gave me lots of answers and information on how to work your way through things. I would also suggest you see a qualified Nutritional Therapist who works on the same principles as the information in the book.

There is light at the end of the tunnel - it just depends which tunnel you choose. NT made a vast difference to my life.

All the best

Hi Caroline

Thanks for all the info I'll certainly check it out. I was diagnosed with IBS about 17 years ago so it could be related to that. I've had quite a stressful decade what with one thing and another so maybe this has triggered something?
Thanks for your concern
Iolanthe X
