Hi Sun Rose,

If you have an underactive thyroid, then your thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) normally increases to try and make your thyroid produce more T4 (thyroid) hormone. Your level of 1.23 TSH sounds pretty much in-the-middle of the "normal" scale so neither underactive or overactive being indicated. With the TSH test the doctor should have also had a figure for the T4 level, and that should confirm alongside the TSH whether there is indication of underactive/overactive or not.

So.... really the question is why do you feel crap... I guess that's what you're trying to figure out. Which of the symptoms of underactive thyroid do you have?

Thyroid, Underactive - Symptoms - NHS Choices

A lot of those things can also be symptoms of other stuff, not necessarily underactive thyroid, and there are other things that could result from underactive thryoid that aren't common or even known to the doctors (myself, I was diagnosed (by a specialist consultant) with "incurable blepharitis" and told "you'll just have to learn to manage it", but when I pushed the doctor because my TSH level was just borderline underactive, she put me on a low (child's) dose of levothyroxine and within a couple of weeks the "incurable" blepharitis was gone. Took my doctor a bit by surprise that did!)

Hope you find out what's causing your issues.

Hi

Thanks for replying.

I can tick the majority of those boxes.. I cant find anything for T4 on the list of bloods they took.

I will go back and see them again...I need to arm myself with info because otherwise they will just tell me to come back in six months! again!!

A bit late in the day to reply but it would be worth checking cortisol levels as high cortisol interferes with conversion of T4 to T3. However this would not show in thyroid testing.
