Hi

My daughter has been diagnosed with GI and has been told that her blood level of 7.4 twice in a week requires insulin 4 times a day.

We are very confused as my daughter was in her first week of monitoring and as her levels where as low as 2.8 or 5.6 she thought she could have the odd treat. She did and she knows why they went up so would like to have a chance to put them straight through diet

The dr said the 2.8 must be a machine error:rolleyes:

We were told in clinic that a lady the week before had a 7.2 and could say why so
Altered her diet.

My daughter is not getting the chance.

With the 2.8 we are all really worried that this amount of insulin could be dangerous at the low point.

Any thoughts?

Thank you

I used to work as a pharmacist at a women's hospital and we saw lots of pregnant ladies with GD. 4 times a day insulin is normal. GD is potentially harmful for the baby and isn't treated like other types of diabetes. And management by diet alone isn't a safe option.

She should talk to her midwife or the doctor if she has any concerns about the treatment they are giving her

I agree with Tashanie. This needs to be explained properly by the doctor or midwife and monitored carefully. The baby's health is paramount.

From reading survivor's post it doesn't seem to indicate to me that her daughter is a baby (though I'm sure she'll clarify for us), I think that was just something Tashanie was raising in her post.

Survivor, you/your daughter always has a choice. The best thing to do, if you're unsure, is to speak to the doctor/consultant and get more information from them so you can be reassured that the correct decision has been made (and you can always ask for a second opinion from another doctor too).

Ah, fair point... big words in the middle of the work day eluded me. 😉
