Hello, I am 16 and think I have a medium-large(ish) variocele (I`m 99% sure it is one) on my left side. Will this go on its own? Should I get it operated on? Will I produce less sperm than if I didn't have it? It does not affect sexual acts does it? I am not sure what to do about it. Any help would be most appreciated.

Cheers

It doesn't hurt at all really, but it's visible and it's a bit embarassing. I`ve had it since I was about 15 I think and I haven't seen a doctor about it yet.

Cheers

Hi Steve1

The best advice for you is to go and see your GP to allay your fears.

Varicoceles are really common in young men, its something like 1 in 10 men have this condition and most don't even know about it.

You DEFINATELY should see your GP, to check that it really is varicocoele. It may be embarassing, but the examination will be over very quickly I can assure you. Once you've seen the GP you will put your mind at rest, unitl then you will keep worrying, and no one can really diagnose you online.

Are these related to impotence in anyway?

I echo the advice to go and see a doctor for a diagnosis if you haven't done so already, here's a link which has information on varioceles:

I had it checked out and scanned and they said it's nothing to be concerned with. It is annoying me though, should I look into getting it removed? I want to be able to father children when I am older too.

IMO Steve if it ain't broke don't fix it!

Your GP will be able to advise you on infertility/impotence if these subjects are of concern to you.

Glad it is all ok though.
