Hi all, I am posting on behalf of my husband and I was wondering if anyone has any idea what may be wrong with him. We plan to get him to a doctor as soon as possible but are worrying in the meantime.
About three weeks ago he had pimple like spot (just a red lump) appear about half way down the shaft of his penis but it didnt do much until about a week ago when it filled with pus. Its now drained and has just gone back to a red lump. This alone didnt worry us but now he has a fair sized tender lump in the left of his groin (where the lymph node is as far as we can tell). This is slightly worrying as his family has a long history of cancer. Then today there is a red line (seems to be following a vein) leading from the red lump on his penis to the swelling in his groin. I've read about a boil getting infected and causing blood poisoning which would leave a red line. He feels well in himself but tender down below. Does anyone have any clue what this may be.
Any comment or ideas welcome
Thank you
Claire (and Steve)

Hi Claire,

Sounds like its a boil and as you point out the lymph is trying to fight off the infection. Off to the docs for antibiotics ~ i'm sure it's nothing more serious and wouldn't worry to much.

I had something similar myself in my groin last year and it cleared up pretty quickly with antibiotics.

Get it checked out though cos he'll probably need the antibiotics if it's travelled into the lymph.

Thanks for the reply. Ok today the entire left side of his penis is swollen, it looks awful and is very sore. He saw a doctor who has him on a load of different antibiotics, but he did say that he didnt know what it was (so the antibiotics are just in case they work) and if needs be go to a GUM clinic as it could be herpes (his best guess). Ok I'm no expert but having seen no end of picture (whilst trying to figure out whats going on) and reading about herpes I wouldnt say its that! For starters there is NO blisters, the spot is more like a boil than a blister!! I hope these anti biotics work!!!!

The lump in the groin could be hernia especially if it is tender. The bump on the shaft is probably just an infection since herpes has its own symptoms.....blisters that ooze liquid or blood and that eventually scab and dissappear..............and return unfortunately in the next outbreak 🙁

Please note this is quite an 'old' original post.

((It could also have been cellulitis)).
