Hi guys,
I had a wrist operation exactly 4 weeks ago to have some sort of carbon titanium disc fitted to an old injury that never healed properly.
Now, here's my question.
The scar is about an inch long just at the base of my right thumb, but about and inch above the scar towards my finger tips is still totally numb.
For the first couple of days after the op I just thought it was the anesthetic wearing off. But no, it's still numb.
Could this be nerve damage?
Thanks in advance for any opinions
It's most appreciated
Jocky
Were you warned about possible nerve damage when you consented to the operation? If you were then clearly yes it could be.
However scars almost by definition don't have any sensation in them because whatever went in through the skin will have damaged the nerve endings.
Is the numbness causing you any problems? Is it affecting your ability to hold things and use your hands? If it is then this is something you need to mention when you go back for your post op follow up appointment. Even if it isn't causing you problems the post op follow up is the best place to mention this .
Hi tash, thanks for your response.
Nop, there was absolutely no discussion on nerve damage post op.
To be honest the numbness isn't really affecting my ability to hold things or my grip in general.
The only thing is my wrist is still stiff, but I accept this is par for the course with these types of operations, but physiotherapy Is planned in a few weeks to help that.
Thanks again tash.
