About 2 weeks ago I started getting heavy clicking and grinding on my right knee. I can’t think of anything that could’ve caused this. This caused heavy pain in knee and lower leg. Went to see my GP and he sent me to Southend Hospital to have an x-ray done of my knee and he prescribed me strong painkillers as well as anti inflammatory tablets ( tramadol hydrochloride and voltarol). I have also had to give blood twice for bloodtests. It was tested for full bloodcount, rheumatism, bone cancer, and some more tests which I don’t know. The results of all tests were ok. The x-ray didn’t show any problem with the bones themselves.
The knee occasionally locks up, and is still clicking and grinding a lot.
My GP thinks that the only other options left are wearing down of the cartilage or that a fragment of bone is “floating” under the kneecap.
I’m now waiting for an MRI scan to determine if there is anything wrong with the cartilage. I have been referred on to the orthopaedic dept at Southend Hospital and have also made an appointment to see a private orthopaedic doctor.
Can anyone recommend any non-chemical alternatives to help ease the pain in my knee/leg or anything that may help.
Thanks in advance!
RE: Knee/Lower leg problem
Hi Rainbow Serpent
I am new to this site and you are the first reply I have posted!
I am accustomed to pain myself having just been off work for 7 weeks after an MRI scan showed I have 2 prolapsed discs. I too wanted to find a non chemical treatment and wanted to avoid surgery at all costs. My sister recommended I try a magnotherapy bracelet. They are not cheap starting at £50 but I have worn one for 4 weeks now and am convinced it has helped speed my recovery as last time I met the surgeon I was due to have a spinal epidural to ease the pain and no longer need this. I have seen press cuttings which show how lots of people (and animals) with varying types of pain and condition have been helped by magnotherapy.
I am so impressed I have signed up to spread the word myself.
Good luck with it all and hope you find what you are looking for.

RE: Knee/Lower leg problem
Hi Rainbow Serpent,
I sympathise with your problem. I too started to get problems with my knees a few years ago ( though my weight has probably a lot to do with it!) A friend recommended glucosamine with chondtoitin(?) capsules. I didn't want to take the arthritic tabs my Gp had given me so I tried the capsules. They take about a month to kick in but boy, what a difference they made!! One day I was going upstairs when it suddenly dawned on me that I wasn't in pain. I have been taking them for a few years now and thought (foolishly) that I didn't need to take them anymore, BAD move! Within weeks the pain was back again with a vengence. I have reccomended them to lots of people who have all enjoyed less pain than they had.
You can get them from most Health shops or mail order,
Hope this is of help

RE: Knee/Lower leg problem
Rainbow Serpent,
Hello! My boyfriend Stelios has the same problem. He's still waiting for his MRI Scan but I tell you what he's been taking Glucosamine and it's the business. He's a builder and you can imagine all the hard work he's been doing but the glucosamine has kept the pain at bay.
Make sure you get proper glucosamine. Check out the nutricentre on the web as they have good brands. It's not cheap but it's really worth every penny.
Stelios hasn't decided whether he's going to have the operation or not as he's doing quite well but ReikiAngel is right you have to keep taking the tablets.
Good luck

Massage Bromley Kent
Try to get a leg's massage, massage around on the knee helps of fluid synovial, also the circulation.
Massage uses a certain technique that exerts pressure on the contracted areas of the muscles tissues, helping looses muscles tissues, release toxins from muscles, helps blood and oxygen circulating properly.
The fibers of the muscles stick to each other, thus blocking up the different parts of the body.
To relieve pain and stiffiness in muscles, particularly following sporting or athletic performance. This manipulation is particularly useful when muscles are very painful and sore and unable to tolerate any other pressure manipulations. The muscle is carefully grasped and very gently and rhythmically rocked to and fro until pain and tension are eased.

meniscus injury.
It sounds like a meniscus injury to me...
Unfortunately surgery is the only option but it is quick (in and out of hospital in a day).
Glucosomine and MSM will have better alround effect on arthritic and soft tissue pian
I am just amazed that you all were offered MRI scans... in all the years I have had problems with my knees ( ops on both x 2) Steriod Injections and Not once was the mention of a scan least of all a common x-ray - my local has just thrown me by the roadside now and said there is nothing they can do anymore. As I am already on Steriods for another condition. it is these that control, to a degree the pain.
How Lucky you all are in being treated like Proper Patients not as a Nusiance:mad:
