I would suggest that you try a few rounds of EFT on your itchy palms/feet. It's an amazing technique and works on everything!

I too have itchy palms and had itchy soles on my feet recently. I am in my 40's so perhaps it's to do with menopause. Occasionally I drink too much alcohol and understand that skin itching is often a result of dehydration. Anti histamines help but they are not good to use long term. I'm making a concerted effort to increase the water I drink and to eat more healthily and exercise more. Hopefully that will help.

I have the itchy palms, fingers and feet also, but only after gripping or applying any type of pressure to my hands or feet. There is no redness or swelling involved. :002:

In the same boat

This was the first link that came up after Googling "itchy palms", still looking for answers, but it's interesting to see that others have my issue! I'm only 24, so I don't think it's menopause, at least not in my case! I've been having this annoying itchy palms problem for a while now, several months. Not constant, but whenever I have it it's at night right before bed or once I lay down, and will last for hours! I'm never cutting off circulation or anything. I feel that it's more inside my hands, like inside is swollen or something, not a contact allergy. My palms and fingers swell and are insanely itchy. Running cold water helps, followed by an allergen free lotion. I went to the Dr.'s and he has no clue. Tested me for osteoperosis but since I'm young that was ruled out. Asked my allergist, because it started after beginning allergy shot treatments (one in each arm...itchy hands...coincidance?), but it was a new one to him as well. Very frustrating when doctors just give you the shrug "Hm that's strange". Never the info you wanted to leave with. Anyway, nice to be able to voice it!

wanting it to stop

I have had the itchy palms and fingers for about 4 days now. No rash, no redness, no itching anywhere else. I am a 28 yr old female in very good health. I have made no changes in diet, habits, or anything like this. Please continue to post solutions, so hopefully something might help eventually.

Thank you!

Itchy palms

To add to the mystery of the Horribly Itchy Palms: I'm post-menopause, ALREADY have lupus, peripheral neuropathy, fibromyalgia, high uric acid, hypothyroid, and heart trouble (other than that everything's just fine) but woke up last night with this insane itching palms thing. It's happened once before, several years ago. No rash, though my palms became red and a little tougher feeling...I haven't changed anything lately either, though I did have some Clorox bleach reach my hands for about two seconds earlier in the day. I flushed them with cold water, but don't think this had anything to do with it, as I use bleach from time to time. Then there's the high stress thing, as the year so far has been challenging to say the least. Since I take it for problem #1 above, I took the coward's way out on the itchy palms, as by 4 a.m. I'd just about had enough, and took an additional 5 mg of prednisone. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SOLUTION. Everyone has heard the wonders and horrors of prednisone's impact on the body. It did help, but now it's 14 hours later and they're getting a bit itchy again. Palms, then up the fingers. Any other remedies anyone encounters, I'd love to hear them.

itchy feet, hands and head!!!!

I too have just started with itchy feet and hands but i have also got an itchy head and pubic area now. I havent changed anything or ate anything different. Ive checked for the obvious on my head and down below but nothing doing. I have no rash except where i have been scratching. I have tried E45 creams and also took a piriton pill but its still there!!!!!! I have never known anything like it as all i want to do is scratch all day. Im planning to leave it a couple more days as i tend to live at the GP surgery and then go and see somebody if it isnt working. I have tried wearing cooler clothes and making sure my skin is kept hydrated using baby creams which i always use. I am now trawling through sites just trying to find some kind of answer.

Hi Smllwd and welcome to Healthypages.

No offence intended, but if you could refrain from using abbreviated/SMS speak on your posts that would be appreciated. Hi Sharon, I am also a newbie on here....I googled itchy palms and came up with this forum, like you I have had this itching thing....it's driving me mad too, It started about two months ago with itching in my head !!! thinking I had fleas or lice, I went and bought some "hedrin" !! I have used this a few times and still the itch, went to Docs two weeks ago and she checked my head and said that I had nothing like fleas etc, but then said i must have some blood tests ( in case) they have come back border line for thyroid ( under active) and the white blood cells are low...... not much I can do about this they said, but this blooming itchy has now started in my palms, legs, feet, groin......I am so nuerotic that I bought a magnifying glass to check everything that I find that looks like a bug of some sort........as i am typing this i am scratching just about everything........the only other thing I have noticed is that i get extremley tired and out of breath.......to be honest i was hoping that the doc would find something so at least i could deal with it...so i am like the rest of you people here......surely there must be something wrong? Thanks for listening Linnikins 2

Hi Linnikins2,

I would suggest going back to your Dr. as itching can be a symptom of anaemia as can the tiredness and breathlessness.

Hope you feel better soon.

itchy palms

I've searched on the internet for some answers and can't seem to find any on the causes and treatment of itchy palms.

I have only itchy palms, no redness or bumps. It's starting to crack and get thick. My right palm is itchier than the left. It happens mostly during the day. For awhile it almost went away when I was camping but once I got home it started again. It started in July and it's September now.

I sometime also wake up in the morning with sore feet (not itchy). I don't know if these go together.

I am a female in my 40's. So I was wondering if anyone has come up with anything?

I am not taking Vitamin B6. I am not type 2 diabetic, but my doctor warned me 2 years ago that I could be if I don't change my habits, which I did and I eat a lot healthier now and exercise more and I'm not obese. I am 5 foot 7 and weigh 165 lbs.

So this itchy palm thing is really a mystery. I would like some ideas before I go for my appointment. I don't want the doctor telling me it's nothing and give no treatment.

Thanks.

For about 15 years I have had a couple of itchy spots that come and go: one is on my left foot on the lateral edge of my heel, the other one is on my right palm right underneatch my ring finger.

The one on my hand can be particularly annoying. I keep scratching it, in the past I sometimes scratched it so much that it started blistering. It feels a bit like the itch is underneath the skin. The patch looks completely normal, no redness or anything like that.

It sometimes spontaneously disappears for a long time. The one on my hand has suddenly started again this week, after having been gone for a year or so.

No idea what's causing it. Could be stress-related perhaps.

About an hour ago, I took a long bath. My palms started to itch badly so I used some hand lotion and now I am very relieved.

I use some oily creams, when etching occurs in my legs..
Some meditative creams are also available in market, but use it after doctor's prescription..to prevent any reaction..

itchy palms and feet

Hi, i am new to this site. Put in itchy palms and feet and read this forum. I am a woman in my 40's which seems to be the case with quite a few of you. It has only happened to me about 8 times over past couple of months but is infuriating. Hands and feet feel burning hot and itchy on the inside, nothing to see. I have had athletes foot in the past. I also find the insides of my ears get very hot and itchy, does anyone else experience this?

Itchy palms

I'm 58, post menapausal, and have itchy palms only for a day or two. Never had them before - mostly red, worse at night, and my fingers are swollen to the point where my wedding ring is too tight to wear. Here's what I think, after having researched a bit: combination of stress, new contact w/something (for me it was paint - I had my hands in it a bunch - cleaning tools several times over a couple of days), slight dehydration, and wheat allergy. I've been off gluten for several months to see if it would improve my health (used to have stomach issues, and they stopped altogether). But, I tried some wheat a few times in the last few days, and also have been pretty bad lately about drinking water. I'm guessing that all those together with stress have resulted in the itchy red, thickened palms. Nothing on the feet.
I'll rehydrate, stop the wheat sampling, get away from the paint, and am working on the stress. I'll keep you posted!!

See if this may help:

The condition is called Dyshidrotic Eczema

Signs and Symptoms:

 • - The most common location of dyshidrotic eczema is on the hands and, less commonly, the feet.
 • - Small, tense, clear fluid-filled blisters are seen on the surfaces of the palms and soles and the sides of the fingers and toes.
 • - These blisters can appear "deep-seated" (tapioca-like) due to the thickness of the skin on the palms. In severe cases, lesions can merge together and present as large blisters (bullae).
 • - Redness (erythema) is typically mild or absent.

More info can be found on

Also, there can be found pictures and symptoms on other Itchy Hands causes, so to identify them better:

If your palms, fingers, and/or hands are itchy, it could mean that your skin is overly dry.

Additionally, this could mean that there is both a water loss and an oil loss in the skin. This may seem to be a matter of little concern. But it can be a sign of a more serious problem: essential fatty acid deficiency that can result in cardiovascular disease (stroke, heart attack, etc.)
If you are supplementing with vitamin A, in amounts over 100,000 units daily, dry skin may be the first warning of overdose.

Try these natural remedies for dry skin:

 • The solution is not superficial creams, but obtaining enough unsaturated fatty acids in the diet. These would be the uncooked vegetable oils, such as wheat germ oil, flaxseed oil, sesame seed oil, corn oil, and soy oil. The oil should be fairly fresh; never use rancid oil, for it destroys the vitamin E in that meal. Take additional vitamin E supplementation (800-1,200 units a day).
 • If you are not taking supplemental vitamin A, begin taking a moderate amount (not over 50,000 units a day). Carrot juice will also help.
 • For the chafing, wear cotton clothes; not synthetics. Australian wool (the wool which does not scratch) is also good. Wash new inner clothing before you wear it. This softens the fabric. Do not wear coarse cloth next to the skin.

Hi

I am new to this group and came upon it when I put in "itchy palms" in the search engine. I, too, have been having this problem for 2 years and have been to several allergists and had a ton of blood tests run with no answers. I am wondering if those of you who have this problem are females in your 40's. (I am!) My thoughts are that maybe this is associated with the onset of menopause in some women. Believe me, I am grasping at any straw to try to come up with an answer to this maddening itching. For me, it started in my palms, moved to my wrists, neck, scalp, face and now appears in splotches in different places on my body at times. The palm itching and swelling is almost constant and much worse at night but feels better under cold water. I am desperate now for answers that the doctors can't seem to give me. Can anyone relate or provide some ideas on what this could be or, better yet, what can relieve it, for me?

Thanks for reading all this!

I have started getting itchy palms since this morning and slightly swollen, I'm male 34 so I don't think it's specific to women. I take steroids and the occasional Valium, I can't imagine anyone here dose, just trying to find a common source. I use the gym a lot so could have picked something up from the gym. Anyway asked some friends who use similar stuff to me and they said try an antihistamine. Havent tried it yet. I know it's not from the cold. Totally different feeling from that. If my hands are freezing and I warm them up to quick really hurts and my fingers swell up like sausages. If anyone takes any kind of medication please state what and how much. Will be easier to pinpoint. Last point don't scratch.

Itchy Hands and Feet

I also have the same problem. Itch all over my palms and bottom of my feet. First, I thought it's because of the medicine I took, because it had happened twice before right after I took that same medicine. Yet, it came back for the third time although I'm not taking that medicine anymore.

I've searched for information relating to what causing itch, particularly on palms and soles. This article Causes of Itchy Palms and Soles is the best explanation I've found online which perhaps could help any of you find the answer of your questions.

Itchy Palms

I had not only itchy palms but itchy soles as well. And they burn when being touched or scratched. I found out by accident that I need to remove foods with MSG or artificial flavourings found in Chinese foods, Potato chips, Diet Coke, Mint sweets that has no sugar but aspartame. Anything that is not natural from the source, including sauces, salad dressings have all the artificial flavourings, enhancers or MSG. The symptoms cleared within 3 days... what a relief. I also stopped eating sweets.:)

Itchy palms and fingers

I had itchy palms and fingers that drove me nuts as a kid, and found I could not wear gloves or put hand lotion on my palms, or use an electric blanket. I think it has to do with excessive sweating and w/trapping sweat in. A doctor prescribed prescription strength aluminum chloride, which is the ingredient in deoderants, but I found using roll on deoderant (unscented) like Mitchums on the itchy bumps alleviated the itch and suffering and solved the problem. It's possible the itching was somewhat alleviated by the alchol related ingredient in it.

Also, a couple of the other ingredients leave a little to be desired...

Household Products Database - Health and Safety Information on Household Products

... such as EDTA and Laureth-4. You can check out the Health Studies etc. via that link.

The aluminium chloride is something that many people nowadays are actually starting to avoid because of the concerns about how it blocks the pores and potential risk that may cause. There's controversy about whether it can cause cancers or not and a search of the web will give differing stories (my favourite lough out loud statement was "if it was truly dangerous it wouldn't still be on sale").

Some details of the concerns can be found on Wiki (as reliable as it is ) Deodorant - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

in the "toxicology" section.

All you wrote is likely true, But all I know is, the deoderant works, and when I have those itchy bumps, I would use ANYTHING to stop the itch. It only takes a few times to work, and if you take precautions, you likely can prevent before you need to cure.

But all the deodorant (actually it's an anti-perspirant) is doing is easing the symptoms of the issue rather than getting to the root cause of it and resolving that. That's quite commonly what doctors do (some not all)... just prescribe something for the symptoms rather than investigate the cause.

If the doctor (or consultant) has determined that the itching is being caused by sweating, then looking at what is causing the sweating may be a way to go. It could be something, as an example, like social anxiety for which using some form of therapy may resolve (hypnotherapy, timeline therapy, NLP, EFT etc.)

Fair enough, if you find something to help relieve the symptoms in the short term, then that's ok, but perhaps consider looking to be rid of the issue altogether?

Hope you get it sorted.

For what its worth, I've got exactly those blotches on the tops of my feet right now.... but I KNOW what caused mine - FOOD INTOLERANCE! This is not exactly the same as an allergic reaction, but, oddly, it also responds to antihistamines.

Symptoms of food intolerance (in my experience) can range from the symptoms described above to full-blown hives, to large single blisters and to painful swellings around the joints.

There is only one way to diagnose food intolerance, and that is by going on a very strict diet for two weeks, then if the symptoms have subsided sufficiently, introducing the suspect foods back into the diet one by one.

As one who'se body went in a matter of weeks from being milk intolerant to being milk down-right bigoted and who has been handling this and several other food intolerances for several years now, I offer the following suggestions:
1) Try cutting out ALL five of most common causes of allergies and intolerances. They are: Dairy products in all their forms (i.e. milk, butter, cheese and cream), tomato, nuts, beef and gluten (i.e. wheat bread.)
2) The easiest way to avoid all of these foods is to go E. Asian with your food; Thai (watch out for the nuts in satay though), or Chinese (avoid sweet and sour - that's tomato and pineapple - and sweet chilli.) Most everything else is "safe."
3) Start reading the ingredients list on ALL food packaging. WARNING: You'll be surprised how pervasive dairy products in particular are as an ingredient in processed foods.
4) Persist with this diet RIGOROUSLY for at least 10 days - 14 is better. By then if the symptoms haven't begun to subside, your problem is probably not food related. Be aware: one little mistake in running this diet can have side effects that can persist for up to a week. And its very easy to slip up - a pie (butter in the pastry) pizza (loaded with tomato, butter and cheese), biscuits (loaded with butter), shortbread (which I love - even worse), etc.
5) If the diet works and symptoms subside, try introducing the banned substances back into your diet ONE AT A TIME. That way (and only that way) will you know what is and isn't safe to eat.
6) There is no cure for food intolerance, just careful food management. It takes time to learn to live with this condition, but once you learn the tricks and traps, its not too hard.

So if you've got an itch (medically speaking) that just keeps getting worse, give this a try. It can be a pain in the ass (metaphorically speaking) to implement properly, but its worth the effort. At worst, you'll have eliminated a possible cause of your problem and if I'm right, you'll be on the road to a much happier life. (Your liver and kidneys will thank you for it too.)

Medical warning: Living with the above food restrictions may turn you into a food Nazi.

Happy eating
