Hi all
I have unfortunately managed to fracture my left humerus 2 weeks ago. I am currently in a fibreglass cast with muscular traction. I am getting stabbing sharp pains in the shoulder and forearm area, the whole area has been very badly bruised for the past week and I think I have also suffered some tendon and ligament damage.
Consultant at hospital is due to see me in 2 weeks to see whether I need a plate put in. The timing of this really sucks as my partner is due to have an operation in 3 weeks time on his shoulder to relieve calcificating tendonitis - so at this rate we may just make up one person!!!
Is there anything anyone could suggest to help me be more comfortable and also aid healing?
RE: Healing broken humerus
ooouuuch!!
sorry to see no experts have replied to your thread, so I'll give you an amature opinion!!
I'm an Aromatherapist, not a homeopath but would (and have) use homeopathic remedies in the case of broken bones.
Arnica is the 1st aid remedy (6C) for the trauma and bruising. I always have some in my handbag (along with my Bach Flower Rescue Remedy) for bumps, bruises etc - never know when you might need it! It would still be useful even at this stage to help reduce the bruising and speed up healing of both bone and soft tissues.
Once you know the bones are set in the right position you use one or other, or alternate, calc phos 6C and symphytum 6C. Calc phos aids bone nutrition so speeding up healing. Symphytum's nick name is knitbone and this too promotes fast healing!! Info from a book, but I've used these on my son's broken collar bone which did heal quickly and without the need for much, if any analgesia
Hi Ihave just typed in to google broken shoulder and this wonderful forum came up!
I have exactly the same problem but i had a nasty fall off a horse, i am in sevear pain, and no 1 has explained it as good as you! i am ok wen i have taken my pain releaf tablets but they only work for an hour then im in agony again, and like you said i have shooting stabing pains in my lower arm and shoulder:(
any advise would be very welcome indeed.
i have not got a cast on i just have a collor and cuff on,so wenever i stand up or try and get comfy in bed it is excrusiating:( it only happend on sunday so obviously i no it is going to be very painful but didnt realise i wouldnt be ale to walk!
Have you tried Reiki? It can help accelerate bone healing once the break has been set and can also help reduce pain.
