My partner who is usually really healthy felt his blood pressure may be high and has been getting headaches. He attended the GP (but when he got there they had just made an appt with the nurse!). Anyway, his blood pressure is higher than it should be, although they did not give him the figures and have asked him to go back into a month, whereby if its not changed they will investigate further.

He asked about diet, etc and they really quite unhelpful and said cut down on salt, but he rarely has salt apart from obviously certain foods have salt in them. She also said it HPB should not cause headaches.

I was presuming they may check if he was diabetic or aneamic, etc.

Going to do some Reiki but just wondered if anything else as in natural products can help lower blood pressure?

Thanks

Ellie

Try Hawthorn

Hi Ellie, you could try Hawthorn available from good health food stores. Hawthorn dilates and relax coronary vessels, reducing blood pressure and improving blood supply to the heart. Like all herbal treatment it may take a little time to work

Hi Ellie,

I would wait for a definite diagnosis before rushing to try different remedies for HBP.

The GP won't normally test for diabetes or anaemia (neither of which will cause headaches BTW) unless the pt presents with symptoms consistent with either.

Good luck!

David:)

Two thoughts come to mind:

First, do have a look at the Resperate machine. The effectiveness of this device has been proven in ten clinical studies.

I also understand that magnesium has a blood pressure normalizing function. Chelated form is best. Magnesium Malate is good as the malic acid has its own benefits...

Good answer

Hi Ellie, Thats a great answer from jackiex_x take her advice. Your GP will ask for about three readings at different times before any disission is taken. Ask what the reading is, they shoud,nt mind. You can buy a blood pressure monitor from your chemist for about £10, so you could check it yourself whenever you want.
I use Green tea tablets to keep my blood pressure in check. If your doctor does prescribe medication check with him/her first before taking any alternative.

Hope this helps.

healthy diet (low in fat - high in fibre), plenty of exercise, don't smoke, don't drink to excess, avoid stress, keep a healthy weight..... BP will decrease in no time 🙂

edit: ah just noticed someone else already said all this on page 1

Healthy BP will read anything between 90/60 up to 120/80. any higher or lower than that u need to take corrective measures.

🙂

I’ve been reading some of the recent entries in this forum, and noticed that there was a lot of interest in seeking natural alternatives to reducing blood pressure I work on behalf of a growing company called Works With Water Nutraceuticals, who are UK-based specialists in soluble food supplements using ingredients proven to affect blood cholesterol and pressure levels. A new natural product called help: blood pressure, is designed to help individuals maintain healthy blood pressure levels. Itwas featured on the 21st Feb 2010 in the Mail on Sunday, see the online version here: [url] http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1250781/Five-best--heart-health-protectors.html [/url]

Another product, help: cholesterol , is similarly designed to help people with raised cholesterol to maintain healthy levels. You can read more information on the products by visiting <a class="go2wpf-bbcode" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="www.workswithwater.co.uk">www.workswithwater.co.uk.

We are also looking for people who have elevated levels of blood pressure and/or cholesterol and who would be happy to be a case study for either of these products. This means you would be able to trial them without charge to see if you find them helpful. If you would be like to find out more please contact Lucy Lott on 01903 821550 or llott@pegasuspr.co.uk.

Hi Ellie,

There are a number of things that your husband can do on a dietary level which have a significant and swift effect on his health. These include eating plenty of whole grains (ie steer clear from refined and processed foods/white flour, rice etc), fresh fruit and vegetables, removing alcohol from the diet, limiting stress and maintain a normal weight.

It's a really good idea to get a minimum of 30 minutes exercise in every day too. It's great that your husband doesn't add salt to his foods ...he's obviously doing a lot to help himself already. Be sure to be a food detective though and check the label of foods that you buy as it's often a hidden ingredient, even in things you wouldn't suspect it to be in.

Re supplements it's often a good idea to take a multi-vitamin as this ensures that nutrient levels are in balance. Calcium deficiencies have been linked to high blood pressure and should be taken in combination with magnesium.

Co-enzyme Q-10 is excellent for heart health as is vitamin E. Essential fatty acids are important too and from a dietary point of view you can achieve sufficient levels of these by eating oily fish such as mackerel, sardines, salmon etc, or alternatively seeds like flax (linseeds), pumpkin and sunflower are excellent too. Vitamin B complex is important for circulatory function and can help to lower blood pressure too.

Hope that helps.

Sarah

EFT is very good for any stress factors contributing to high blood pressure - you can find some examples on Gary Craig's website, e.g. here
