Hi
I have been having chest pain that went upto my throat and in my ears and between my shoulder blades for a few weeks but ignored it 😮 I saw my GP a week ago who phoned an ambulance straight away, after having a chest x-ray and bloods done twice (6hr break in between each blood test) i was told my xray was fine but the bloods did suggest angina and given a glycerin spray to use. Told to ring for an ambulance if pain did not go away after 30mins, the next day the pain came but did not go away i waited 60mins then rang for an ambulance, but the pain went as i was on my way to A+E,:o stayed for bloods again, then told only to wait 20mins if the pain did not go :confused:since then i have only had slight pain sometimes they are more like twinges. I have an appointment tomorrow at the cardiology unit at the hospital and been told i will be going on the treadmill but not told anything else, so i was wondering if anyone knows if i will have other tests done and will i see a cardiologist as i need to know if i am ok to go back to work? sorry for going on but i am worried about what i will be told at the hospital:002: thanks marg
Hi Margie and welcome to Healthypages,
I'm sure if they had detected something really serious you wouldn't have been let out of hospital (I know it's Staffs hospital and their reputation hasn't been good recently, but trust me, the actual staff do their best and things have definitely improved in the past couple of years).
If it's tests they're doing then they want to help you find out the cause, and they're right that if you get chest pains you should call an ambulance or get yourself down A&E a.s.a.p. as it could be life saving.
So, let's be realistic, what's more important, your work or your health? Of course you're going to be concerned about being at work, that's normal, but let them do the tests and then take it from there, after all it could be something as simple to treat as a stomach ulcer. Let them do the tests and find out first.
I'm sure it'll be fine, and come back and let us know how you get on.

stress test done
Hi
I had a stress test done today and the ECG suggested an extra heart beat and my blood pressure dropped when i finished the test but had no pain in my chest just breathless, the specialist said he wasnt worried by the results but wants me to have another test where they will inject me with a dye and i go in a machine similar to an MRI scanner. I have been told by someone else that an ECG doesnt always show up any issues with the heart, i dont know if this is true or not. The specialist did not say if i still have to take an asprin a day and use my spray and i didnt think to ask 😮
I will have to wait and see what the next test suggests if anything.

Hi Margie,
I've a relative who had sensations of breathlessness and it was discovered she had a heart that missed a beat, but she's perfectly ok. The ECG just measures electrical activity of the heart, so they can tell quite a bit about how the heart is functioning, i.e. if it's regular, has extra beats, missing beats or has a pattern that says you're having a heart attack etc. but it can't let them see the heart in detail.
I had a similar scan to the one you describe when I had a kidney stone. I lay down and then the machine injected a dye and moved me back and forth through a doughnut, which is essentially the same as an MRI scanner but not as claustrophoic. You won't feel anything apart from the strange sensation when the dye is injected (a slight warm feeling travelling up my arm when I had it done).
If the specialist hasn't told you anything about your medication you should continue with it as instructed by your doctor, and when the results are passed to your doctor or consultant you will contacted if necessary especially if the medication needs changing.

Cardiology Today
Just would like to bring to your attention a site that might offer you some answers: Cardiology News | Cardiology Today. 😮
Cardio Tests
They will likely do an ECG to begin in order to try and find any abnormailities in heart rhythm. It's amazing what they can tell from an ECG. They may ask you to stay and follow up with a ultrasound. This is exactly the same thing they do for pregnant women but instead on your chest. They may also ask you to wear a 24 hour monitor, which records your heart rhythm at home, so they can see what's happening in a normal day of your life. Ectopic heart beats are very normal and nothing to worry about.
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Margieproc
I know it's been a while since you posted, I've only just joined, but I wanted you to know that you are not alone.
I too have recently been admitted to hospital with chest pain. Yes, it really is scarry.
So far I've had a chest x-ray and an echocardiogram as well as more ecg's than I can remember. I'm waiting for a stress test, a 24hour ecg and an angiogram (things don't move fast in the NHS lol)
It would be interesting to know how you got on with your tests. I went back to work after 2 weeks but then ended up back in a&e so am back on the sick again with breathlessness, so bad it's interferring with my favourite passtime of talking 😀
Chin up and work will still be there
