Hello
Can anyone tell me the reason that Ramipril decreases sexual desire?
As it opens up the arteries and thereby increases blood flow, I thought it might be expected to improve libido, but one of the side effects is said to be decreased sexual desire.

Thanks for any advice.

Yes, loss of libido is a known side-effect of Ramipril. I'm not a biochemist, so can't give you a technical answer.

However, I would question your thinking. Libido - sexual desire - is not created by blood flow, so increasing blood flow would not in and of itself cause an increase in libido. Blood flow is merely one of the mechanisms by which desire is moved to action. Desire is co-ordinated by the brain, and as we know, most pharmaceuticals mess with your head.

Well, on a quick look at the product info it looks as if it's pretty toxic, in fact most medications are, and that is how they work. The more your body is dealing with toxins, the less energy it has for other functions, like reproduction. So hypothetically you could go into the garden shed and find a bottle of anything labelled 'poison', swig a small proportion of the lethal dose, and see what it does for your sex drive.

Took your advice. Nothing exciting happening. But there are no weeds in my hair. 😀
