Hello earth people.
Having reached the grand old middle age of - well suffice to say the age my Father was when he died of a heart attack - I decided to get my cholesterol checked and had a fairly comprehensive blood test.
All is apparently well but I'm a little nonplussed by my cholesterol result:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HDL Level 2.0 mmolL (outside calculation reference range 0.9-1.6)
LDL Level 1.8 mmol/L
Triglyceride Levels 0.6 mmol/L
HDL ratio 2.1
Total cholesterol Level < 4 (estimate)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I rang to find out what this actually meant and was told (I think) that the HDL level is outside the range for accurate calculation based on the logarithm they use.
My figures would produce a total figure of 4.08. But using the highest figure usable of 1.6 would produce a figure of 3.68. Therefore the superior figure of 2.0 produces an inferior total result. I therefore have nothing more accurate than an estimate of less than 4. Surely it must be possible to get something better than this.
 Where are my Mogadons?:)
Hi Albert,
Perhaps you just need to speak to your doctor about it?

Who do you think I rang for the explanation? Meryl Streep?:D
I don't mean ringing them on the phone, I mean making an appointment to sit down, speak to them, and say, "I need this explaining to me cos I don't understand it".
😉
(and you never know Meryl Streep, may have knowedge about it too :D)

Don't you mean 'information'..........hmnnnn ( :p )
Hello Albert, Excuse the interruption.... I'm going now.....
:offtopic:
(heeehee)
Probably anything written on the forum could be addressed with a doctor. The idea of posting on a forum is to gain extra insight and possibly find people who might have personal experience of the same situation. Someone might even have known a different method of calculation that isn't restricted. Obviously if I'd known I was going to get this pointless drivel in response I wouldn't have tried this particular forum.
You live and learn as they say in the Latin Quarter. 🙂

I wish my cholesterol was that good. Your total cholesterol is low. the ratio of good to bad cholesterol is good. Your triglyceride level is good. Keep up the good work.. Do'lt worry about getting the figures to add up or about one figre being outside the reference range.
The important things are total cholesterol less than 4 and the right ratio of good to bad cholesterol. Thats all you need to worry about
