Hi Everybody
I have a great worry and would appreciate some advice, if you are able to give it. Last year my blood pressure went quite high. I exercised and watched my diet and tried to relax more. I managed to bring it down toan acceptable level and still watch what I eat and exercise.
Recently a family worry has helped it to go up again (I am a worrier I'm afraid), and I am having difficulty bringing it down. I bought a BP machine to keep an eye on it, and have had a couple of visits to the Nurse to check it, but have not managed to bring it down enough to the same lower level as before over a period of three weeks (although it has come down somewhat) . I have asked for another week to try to reduce it before I see the Doctor again, and accept thatI will need to do this. The thing is, I am worried about is having to take tablets for the rest of my life, and whether they will have other effects on me.
Has anyone out there been treated for Hypertension and then been taken off medication again at a later date?

RE: HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
Hi Gemini,
My husband reduced his blood pressure medication by taking Co Enzyme Q10 tablets - bit PLEASE discuss this with your doctor before taking them.
Also, if you drink grapefruit juice or squash, check the patient information leaflet you get with your tablets - some are affected by grapefruit juice, but I don't know why!!
There are essential oils that may help lower blood pressure and help with relaxation/worrying - I would suggest you see a qualified aromatherapist who can ensure your treatment doesn't conflict with your medication or any other conditions you may have.
Hope this helps
Love
RE: HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
Thanks Sandie,
I'll mention the Co Enzyme Q10when I go.I ought to have also mentioned that when I took my BP before going to the surgery it was a lot lower than when the Nurse took it, and when I took it later in the evening, it had dropped down to the level I took before I went to Surgery. This happens most times.

RE: HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
I was going to mention that. While getting a new GP my BP which should be normal registered pretty high, and it's apparently common if you go there in a hurry, or some are a bit stressed in a medical setting.

RE: HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
hi gem
i had raging high blood pressure last summer, coulda had it for longer... who knows.
i didnt want the BP tabs either so i went the ayurvedic route and take mukta vati tablets. they brought my BP down in a few days and although i have reduced the number i take, it stays down. i forgot to take them for a few weeks... yeah yeah i know, had it checked and it was easing up again, so i started on the reduced amount again and its back down to normal levels.
the thing i noticed most about them, was that within a few days, stuff i'd angst about just didnt bother me so much.
i got them on the net.
HTH!
RE: HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
Thanks, Venetian. I think I get stressed out in case it is higher, and then it is.
Rosie - Will have a look for the mukta vati tablets on the net.

RE: HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE - Update
Hi
Just to say that I have tried the Mukta Vati tablets and they are doing the trick - and they do seem to stop you getting anxious as well.

I also started to use these little miracle tablets a couple of weeks ago after reading about them on this forum. I needed to get my BP under control quickly for a minor operation and my doctor put me on Amlodipine. They had only marginal effect and I started getting constipation so I dropped them and tried the MV tablets. My BP has dropped from around 166/98 to 140/84 (average figures) in less than a week and I only take 2 pills per day. I am in my 60s so the doctor set me a target of 140/90. I am delighted to say I have noticed no negative side effects and the positive already mentioned about being calmer in general.
Has anyone taken these tablets long-term?
Thankyou HelathyPages!!
In Japan and Korea they have carried out extensive trials and treatment for high blood pressure using alkaline water. The following is an excerpt from the book Water of Life: a cure for your body By Professor Won H Kim :
' As we have seen, irregular blood circulation can be called the beginning of all adult-onset ailments. The major cause for this comes from acidic waste materials which get piled up on vascular walls or clog capillary vessels. Crucial organs need a smooth supply of blood, but piled up waste on walls make vessels narrower. This coupled with clogged capillaries, results in raised blood pressure to supply blood. This is the general principle behind occurence of hypertension. Alkaline reduced water resolves hypertension originating from residues of waste on vascular walls.
Alkaline reduced water does more than just decrease the acidic wastes by alkalising blood: it is effective for hypertension because its superior power to conduct surface activity can melt effete matter stuck to vascular walls.'
Periods of stress increase the acid load on the body and this reflects in different people in different ways. By addressing the underlying problem and giving the body what it needs you should be able to control your hypertension without resorting to drugs.
Taking Omega 3 oils also helps to thin the blood, which in turn helps to lower blood pressure. They are also vital for health so consider these if you are not taking them already!
Garlic Too!!
Garlic has a blood thinning effect also and can reduce BP. Casenovas (such as moi :)) can resort to Garlic Tablets which are referred to as Aroma controlled. Nevertheless they do 'exude' a slight whiff.
The Mukta Vati is supposed to be a long term cure not just a BP controller. If you read some citations the idea is to get BP under control and then gradually reduce the dosage away to zero over time.... we shall see. I'm down to 130/80 averaged over the second week of half dosage (from 165/100). There seem to be about 8 quite obscure herbs in the formula.

what is mukta vati?
where can this be obtained reliably?
for those that wrote they do not wish to take pills (i would be one of those people) - would not this be the same as taking pills?

Mukta Vati
I got mine from the same link thought there are several sites where it can be obtained. The price is pretty much the same although it is considerably cheaper to buy several pots perhaps bringing the cost down to around £10 per 120 pills.
These are obviously still pills but manufactured from natural products (herbs) and not in a chemistry lab.
This may be a philosophical point to some but my view is that there are known side effects to virtually all the prescription drugs for BP. I only used some for a week and suffered both headache and constipation. After two weeks of MV I haven't experienced and side effects other than feeling slightly calmer than usual.
Best of luck,
M
I'm taking pills for high BP and I hate having to do it, but my BP was extremely high, 180/114! It is controlled on these pills but they do make me pee a lot, which can be really incovenient.
Although I don't like taking them, I'm a bit reluctant to come off them and try something else, as it was so high to start with.
The thing about Mukta Vati is that you can take them alongside your existing medication with no ill effects. If you have invested in a BP machine (ca £29) you can experiment by reducing your prescribed dose while you take the MV pills for a month say. The MV should kick in after 3-4 days and you can monitor to see if they work for you. If you have a decent reading after reducing prescription tablets to nil - then that's great.

i checked out the link - thank you - ugh, so expensive. i think i'll have to stick with regular smart eating and exercise - although time is valuable - it'll do less to break my bank - ha ha
i have read that natural apple cider vinegar can also be very beneficial for BP, and i have used it with seemingly positive results, but as the nature of BP can itself be very spuratic - it's hard to say if when taking the ACV - if that had a positive contribution or if it was just the timing of the reading - although if push came to shove - i'd say the ACV did contribute somewhat to better readings.
I DO like the idea of home BP machines though, i never realized there was such a thing, and relatively affordable as well - i like it 😀
oh! i forgot i wrote on this thread about mukta vati! brilliant that a few here have found them useful.
i cut down to one a day pretty quick and AFAIK, my BP is till fine, but i havent been to GP for a few months now to have it checked. i might just do that.
i recommended them to my BIL too and he has found them to help.
nishira, yes they are expensive but i but 6 and share ;)... and only taking half rations, means less than a GP script anyway!!
i'd like to think i do eat healthily and i do exercise moderately, but i think there were other factors involved in my increase of BP... age being one of them! 😮
That's right. A pot of 120 pills can last quite a long time - particularly when the BP has come down under control.
On the subject of a home BP device. I think they're really important for your own self knowledge and peace of mind. I found that my BP goes up by about 10% (both figures) when I go to the doctors..... stress obviously. That's a vital piece of data about your true reading which your own doctor can't possibly know.
All the best,
M

hmm, has anyone ever heard of have any experience with this model - looks interesting?
thank you ...
Don't know that precise model but it looks almost identical to the one I use which is German made (purchased in a Tchibo store). Runs on 4x AA batteries which seem to last quite a long time (6 months so far). You can download some free BP tracking software (SoundTells Blood Pressure Tracker) and away you go - you're in control.
Best wishes,
M

wow - this is awesome, i'll definitely but d/l and using that software - thank you!!
Not that it will help nishira in Nashville, but Lloyds the Chemist sell BP monitors at a greatly reduced rate of £10.

Hi nishira,
I have both a wrist type and an upper arm type BP monitor at home.
Doctors say that the Upper Arm type is more accurate. My experience is the same.
My own GP's practice is equipped with Omron machines. I believe they are good. Here is what the British Hypertension society recommends:
<a class="go2wpf-bbcode" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href=" http://www.davidgregory.org/blood_pressure_monitors_list.htm "> http://www.davidgregory.org/blood_pressure_monitors_list.htm
You can see that Omron is recommended.

Re high blood pressure -my mum has successfully controlled hers for 10 years by taking hawthorn drops She is in her 70s and is a workaholic but has found if she stops taking it the BP goes up. It might be cheaper than the mukti tabs- she uses Vogels. luv Frayja
Try Holland and Barrrett, they always have a cheaper version, as you are not paying for the name, and its the same as a brand make.
Another perspective on high blood pressure.....
I can't speak personally because I don't have it but I'm a homeopath and in our training what came to light was how much it fluctuates and how different devices give wildly different readings! So although taking it regularly over many days would show up the general trend, just one or two readings could be meaningless.
Most people I treat, hate taking blood pressure pills and think they'll be on them for ever. But with a course of homeopathic treatment, they often manage to get off them. They have to discuss this with their gp of course but if they think the patient's really determined, they're usually quite helpful in gradually reducing the dose. -You shouldn't try and do it yourself without some medical advice.
I think emotional stress can have a significant part to play in raising bp and if your diet's pretty good and you don't smoke, aren't really overweight and are reasonably active, other things like yoga and meditation can help with relaxation. HTH Hom
I tried this Russian device for my BP
They promised that BP will reduce to a normal level in 2-weeks time, but I felt results once I started using it. Not very cheap (GBP 75), but I do not take my pills any more.

Hey Frayja,
What dosage of the Hawthorn pills does your mum use out of interest. I am still going with 2 MuktaVati pills a day and have stabilised at around 130/80 which is 10 better in each figure than the doctor ordered. I'm highly delighted but as you say these little things are up to 400% more expensive than the Hawthorn thingies. Unless of course you need to take 6 pills a day?? 🙂
