hi guys, has anyone used Glyceryl Trinitrate angina spray? i've been to the doc's with chest pains and numbness in left arm and also palpitations recently and this is what he prescribed me.

i'm a 30 year old male non-smoker amateur bodybuilder, i've been for a 12 lead resting ecg and it was fine, also due for blood tests and a 24 hour holter heart monitor next week.

im really just looking to see if anyone has used this and did it help?

all the best.

You must take the advice of your doctors, and use it (the spray) as and when required, until they fully investigate the underlying cause of your symptoms.

My parents both used GTN sprays (nitrogylcerin) as they both developed heart disease as they went into their 60's. Both had regular heart monitoring (usually every 12 months). They used the spray as and when required, usually after overdoing it, or when they got anxious or agitated about something.

You are very young, so take all the advice you can get, but don't stop the medication.

hi jabba, thanks for replying. i certainly do intend to take all my gp's advice. i must admit i've been to my usual doc about these symptoms for over a year now maybe, and he constantly said anxiety.
i was never happy with his attitude so went to another doc in the practice and since, he has started all the treatment that i spoke of earlier. i just can't understand how one doctor can say anxiety and another who seem genuinley interested in your concerns.

thanks again jabba.

Diagnosis is a very inexact science - in fact its an art!! And when you see a GP some times they will be busier than at others and have more time. Doctors are human too. But changing your doctor was the right thing to do and I am glad you could

Learning some techniques for relaxation like meditation won't hurt because stress and anxiety can raise your blood pressure and make chest pains more likely.

Use the spray if you get the symptoms. be prepared for headaches when you first use it, and go for all the tests etc that your doctor advises. If it is just anxiety the tests will come back all clear, if it isn't just anxiety then any cardiac issues can be dealt with.

Good luck

hi sally :), i accept that doctors are human. but what i can't except is, the doctor in question if what you'r saying is anything to go by, must be rushed of his feet anytime i visit him then.
the least i expect of my GP is for him to listen to the symptoms i'm describing to him, and not lean back and drink his coffee and say anxiety every single time.
the new doctor i've seen as i've said seems very intent on what he's doing in getting things done which i appreciate greatly.
i think you might have a point in the relaxtion techniques angle, i used to do tai che and these symptoms were virtually non-existent, so that could be option.
really appreciate all the feedback guys.
