I am concerned about a friend. Earlier in the month dizzy spell (light headed), nothing more (ie just once). At work last week, bad dizzy spell and said felt like room coming towards them and room spinning. Yearly health checks at work, had such dizzy spells about 2 years ago, nurse at work suggested dr look at what causing them, but Dr didn't (why friend didn't pursue I don't know). After dizzy spell at work (blood presure 140/98) visit to dr, signed off for a week, back to dr today, another blood pressure check, told high but not serious (reading not known). Been prescribed Ramipril 1.25 mg to take for 7 days (one daily), then dr wants to check blood pressure and increase dosage to 2.5 mg, also wants blood test test (to check glucose levels) and ecg.
Diet....um... eats on average 2 takeaways a week and drinks on average 3/4 cans of fizzy drinks a day (I have advised to cut down on takeaways because of the high salt in them), also to reduce fizzy drinks to maxium 1 a day (preferably no more than 2/3 a week...drinks caffeine free versions...although personally I don't think fizzy drinks are good for one). Doesn't like water, thinks it boring! although now and then will have a diluted orange squash.
Work wise job is quite energetic
any suggestions overall - besides cutting down on fizzy drinks and salt intake (they have take sugar in a cup of tea and usually have a cup of tea now and then, don't drink coffee)
Up to date situation - today one spell of light headness, especially after doing something like housework so had to sit untilit passed. Been signed off work for another 2 weeks. Advised not to drive whilst light headness/dizzy spell, of course best not to drive I would think until problem is sorted.
Holistic wise treatments they have had recently are Indian Head Massage and Thai Foot Massage....should they continue with treatments.....any other general advice much appreciated
Thanks
Hi AP
One drug free way of raised or lowered BP is pranayam breathing. It works, its gentle, easy and relaxing. Very calming effect on the whole as well.
Try pranayam for high BP,
Could google 'mudras' too as they are effective too.
Hope it gets better

Hi there, Don't know about the Thai foot massage but I found Indian Head Massage effected me quite badly in the light headed/dizzy department. A lot of people have said this about IHM that is one of the reasons I did not pursue it when I completed my training some years ago.
I hope things improve.
The best thing they can do is stay up to date with their ramipril and doctor visits. Lavender oil is known to destress and lower blood pressure, though I'd be careful with using ramipril too, don't want it going the other way!
Gentle exercise like walks and destressing is the best advice I can give
X
I would suggest both . Both can make an enormous difference without having to resort to drugs.
Reducing Blood Pressure by changing diet
Meditation in tandem with a healthy diet could work for you. Our lives are becoming so hectic that this can effect our blood pressure, and no job is worth dying for! Up potassium intake in bananas, etc, ban table salt from all recipes and watch your food intake in general.

hi,
as suggested to you pranayam works exceedingly well for lowering blood pressure. In pranayam there is alom vilom which is the best for lowering BP.
here is a link to a site which has explained what to do pretty well. please try it. Alom Vilom Pranayama: Simple Pranayama For Beginners.
mudras also work well in tandem with pranayam. the mudra to be used is apan vayu mudra. once again am pasting a link which explains reasonably well how to do it. Apan Vayu Mudra.
with mudras you have to hold the position for a minimum of 15 mins and you can do it 2 - 3 times a day. you can do it with both hands or either one of the hands.
