RE: cholesterol
Hi, i have just got my result in cholesterol level from my Gp this week. The normal one is: (3.0-5.2). Mine was quite high; 6.6 and my gp suggested to go on diet; avoid fatty food, eat 5 portion of F & V, and exercise for 45mn a day. She gave me a low fat diet sheet to follow theadvise.
RE: cholesterol
Some GP's are keen to get people onto 'statins' to try and lower cholesterol (and please the drug reps that try and flog it to them)- try everything else first! Some people have naturally elevated cholesterol, and tick along nicely.
RE: cholesterol
Cholestrol? My dreaded word! I have been under my gp for over a year. Originally my cholestrol level was approx 7. She put me on 80mg,one a day so I dropped to 6. Must add all the time I was taking the cholestrol pills,I suffered from Diarhea in the morning. (sorry, spelling). She also placed me on an extra pill called Exetrol which also helps to reduce cholestrol.
More diarhea! On reading the side effects which were muscle pain which can result in kidney damage. fatigue and headaches etc.
So,what do I do,continue or stop taking them? My cholestrol is now 4.2.
RE: cholesterol
Hi
My cholesterol has been raised i.e. 7 now for two years. Doctor won't put me on statins though as I have low risk i.e. Low blood pressure, don't smoke, not diabetic, no family history. I think it is a genetic inheritance.
The usual things are recommended, exercise, diet, and also the products using plant sterols which naturally bring down cholesterol.
The exercise is aimed to increase HDL which is the good cholesterol it is good to have a high reading on HDL.
Luv Binah
RE: cholesterol

Cholesterol levels should be measured at least once every five years in everyone over the age of 20. The screening test that is usually performed is a blood test called a lipid profile. Experts recommend that men aged 35 and older and women aged 45 and older be more frequently screened for lipid disorders. Everything above 5 is moving into the dangerous zone!
The idea is to try to lower your cholesterol using diets before they get you on statins!
