I have been attending my doctor on and off for nearly a year about bruising. I have had various blood tests and always the results are normal. I feel something must be wrong because I can go to bed and waken with bruising on my hands my arms, elbows, legs etc. does anyone have any thoughts on this

RE: any thoughts on this

Hi Lola

Some people are just prone to bruising, it is connected to the strength and integrity of the cell wall and some peoples are just weaker than others, however saying that it can SOMETIMES be a sign of lack of vit K or problems with absorbing it correctly however this would normally show up in blood tests....

I have some clients that almost seem to bruise as soon as you look at them, nothing wrong its just them!!!

Hope that helps somewhat and try not to worry

Hi Lola

I am the same and was told by the doctor that it was nothing to worry about, they worry when the bruises are really dark almost purple and take a long time to clear. I had a horse shoe shape one the other morning - god knows where that come from! 😀

I don't worry too much, just keep an eye on them to make sure they are fading, if they don't then you shoud go back! or if you get overly tired I think!

With love

Hello,

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, bruising is a sign of weak Spleen meridian energy. The Spleen meridian has the function of "keeping the blood in the blood vessels". Ok, before you all panic, your physical spleen organ is probably absolutly fine.
Other signs that are assoicated with a Spleen meridian imbalance are: slow at waking up in the morning, not feeling hungry when waking up (can you have breakfast right away when out of bed?), tendency not to feel thirsty, tiredness after meals, heavy limbs. Craving for sweet foods. On the emotional side, a tendency to worry, to take care of needs of others but not of oneself...

Things to do? Foodwsie, avoid sugar, eat millet, carrots, pumkins... Do some exercise - does not have to be going to the gym 3 times a week! Long walks are fine.

Hope this helps,

Artemis

As TigerBee says - it's to do with the integrity of the cell walls and more specifically the intergrity of the blood vessel walls.

As odd as it may sound, but a lack of the trance mineral copper can cause a weakness in the vascular walls. Odd, perhaps because our drinking water is piped though copper pipes, but any leaching of copper is in an inorganic form, which we are unable to absorb and assimillate.

I don't accept that, that's just how some folks are, I would say that this is something that it is better to address. If they are having visible bleeds into superficial tissues, then what going on under the skin, as it were. Or worse intracranial (in the skull) or in the eye. We all have hereditary stuff, but most don't now need to suffer as our predicessors. [sm=nono.gif]

If the obvious have been eliminated, i.e. iron anemia & vitamin K, then I would definately try a copper supplement for a month or two to see if that helps.

Other possible symptoms of copper deficiency include- nose bleeds & arthritis.

Whilst it is known that copper deficiency can cause a full blown aortic anyurism ( a rupture of the main artery coming from the heart) in turkeys, much of vetenarian research does not get considered in human medicine. And there's little profit to be gained by researching organic substances as you cannot patent or copyright them.

If I was to stick my neck out, then I would say - that's first port of call. Other blood vessel supporting nutrients include vitamin C.

If there's no lack of the above in the diet, then there may be an underlying reason to the problem. As Artemis suggests, there may be a Spleen Meridian deficiency or there maybe an impaired ability to metabolise Vit C or copper.

In which case & for the long term - consulting a TCM or 5 Element Acupuncturist or NAET practitioner may be the way to go. 😉

Andrew.

if all blood test are good then I will suspect weakness of blood vessels. Also if you take medications then they can be a reason: NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen), Antidepressants, Blood thinners, Some steroids, Vitamin E, Fish oil etc.
Check them with your dr especially if you took medication in the past ....
It can be inflammation of blood vessels (if you are young esp, called purpura), also check with your dr, he will make blood tests for inflammatory factors
It can be systemic disorder
It can be just yours skin type (became thinner )
It can be sign of vitamin k and c deficiency
If it is bleeding in joints and you see bruises over joints then it can be also bleeding disorders
If you have bleeding (that difficult to stop) and bruises then urine and stool must be investigated as well

In any way, if bruise without trauma and more then half inch in diameter, then I think the best way is to get an professional advice from haematologist (who needs to know your history as well). Without history it is too difficult to tell something
