I have a 21 year old at home, had a tonsillectomy 6 days ago, in a lot of pain.
Has the usual medication, any suggestions for Aromatherapy treatment?
Not aromatherapy - we used to do aspirin gargles. Dissolve aspirin in water and gargle with it - don't swallow if on other painkillers.
I'd get them seen by the Dr again before too long - today/tomorrow - shouldn't be that bad at at this stage.
Avoid sugar and refined foods: consuming 75 g (3 oz) of sugar in one sitting in any form (sucrose, honey, fruit juice) depresses white blood (immune) cell activity by 50% for 1–5 hours. This includes sugar, honey, fruit juice, dried fruit, candy, cake, biscuits, baked goods, ice cream, fizzy drinks, etc.
Choose preferably raw fruit and veg - can be made into smoothies or juiced to get the best benefit from them. Home made soups can be a good way to consume much-needed nutrients. Iced water can be helpful for the pain. A quality multivitamin/multimineral is more than likely needed (not a cheapo type from the supermarket/chemist - get it from a healthfood shop).
There is a good book for information on how to help build up the immmune system. If a tonsillectomy was needed then please follow Holford's advice!
