Had my eyes tested this morning, and they did that wierd thing where they blow air into your eyes. Also had a picture taken of the inside of my eyes. Routine stuff I guess.
I was concerned because there's "high pressure" inside my left eye. So they are referring me to the Eye Hospital for further investigation. I feel sick because the Optician suggested it could be early stages of Glaucoma. Apparently treatable with eye drops (really?) Apart from the need for glasses for watching TV and distance (though not too bad) I am REALLY worried about this.
Glaucoma???
Can someone put my mind at rest please.
The Optician looked into my eye with her bright light thing, she also showed me the picture of the inside of my eye. She said she could not see any obvious problem.
What else could be wrong?
I went through the identical scenario last year - "high pressure"/"could be glaucoma" etc etc. I was in the opticians office for about 5 hours, and he repeated all the tests twice - he kept asking if I was diabetic or had heart disease???? I was panicking, I can tell you!. I was then referred to the local hospital eye clinic and seen two days later by the consultant opthalmologist. He was very thorough, and very quiet - I was watching a vein throb in his forehead - and wondered who was the one with the problem!!!! He finished all his assessments and said he had no idea why I had been given an emergency referral when there was patently nothing wrong with my eyes other than age related degeneration - my prescription remains at 1.50 for both eyes. He was very cross and was going to personally ring and speak to the 'chap' at the opticians.
Take your appointment at the Eye Hospital, and get checked over - even if it is just to put your mind at rest.
My mother used drops to treat early-glaucoma.

Thank you for your reply Jabba. It's not unheard of for machines to go wrong whilst being tested. I shall go through with further investigation just to put my mind at rest. Having "Googled" glaucoma, I can understand why it happens, and that it can be treated if found early enough. So I won't get too worried, though I felt very sick when I was told.
