Hello all you knowledgeable people,
Here is a great opportunity for you to help both myself as well as many other adults.
Since childhood [1950's] I have been a regular sufferer from pressure build-up in the middle-ear. This is obviously caused by some infection. Labyrinthitis is an associated condition.
Nowadays I am quite used to living with this problem, as I no longer have the dreaded earache so painful for a child.
However, I would be pleased to hear of some natural ways in which to alleviate the problem. Please do not bother to ease me down the "candling" route. Also I know that the onion / shallot in the outer ear often helps but is not worth the accompanying deterioration of ones social life!
RE: Any remedies 4 Middle ear pressure / infection?
Hiya Richard,
Sorry Ive got no knowledge on the subject but your post did make me laugh-you sound like my dad!!![sm=rollaugh.gif] (no offence!!)
Just out of interest, why dont you want to try hopi candles??
Have you tried them already without success?
Tx
RE: Any remedies 4 Middle ear pressure / infection?
Hello Tx, you Super Member,
I do not think that I am your Dad, although there are some vaguely matching bits on your pic [taken in a call centre by the look of it] mainly the phone & the grubby hand!
Good of you to admit a lack of knowledge on the subject matter [you'll never become a HP Moderator if you continue that way]. I feel better already.
Hopi aka hopeless ear candles are not the answer, even when administered by a competent therapist, for real money. The main problem was that they fell right through my head & kept igniting the therapy couch!
I eagerly await the input from other HP'ers.
In the meantime, may I wish you good luck with your studies & if you think that I am a rude, nasty, facetious old git, then you're spot on. I am getting on in years and have thoroughly earned the right to be awkward, confrontational, messy and abusive at will. I'm thinking of adding incontinence to my repertoir as an additional attention-seeking plot.
Cheers

RE: Any remedies 4 Middle ear pressure / infection?
Try a very little dap of pure tea tree oil and I mean very little dab cos it can sting if you put too much and lots of reiki it works if the infection isn't too far gone.
This is also excellent for tooth ache
Ear infections can be very dangerous so do not delay if it hasn't eased within 24 hours pleasego straight to the doc, if its acute then off to the docs anyway for some antibiotics because ear infections can make you lose consciousness.
blessings Kim xx
RE: Any remedies 4 Middle ear pressure / infection?
Hello Kim,
Thanks for your kind thoughts & advice. I have a couple of concerns.
[1] What is a "Dap" I am thinking of a drop, or a dab. The dictionary definition has to do with letting fishing bait drop gently into the water.
[2] I am not certain as to how the medicament should be administered.
Please enlighten me, as I would like to consider giving the treatment a try.
With best wishes
RE: Any remedies 4 Middle ear pressure / infection?
Hi RG
I also suffer with middle ear infection and there is nothing left that the doctors can do about it ... apart from antibiotices (which I will no longer take)
So I went along to my local Health Shop and they recommended a herb called Plantago also known as 'Lance Leaf Plantain' it comes in a 'tincture' form & made by Bioforce It does take some time to get into the system anything upto 12 weeks before you may notice any difference and it can be used long term...I have been using now for some time with very few problems...the only time I had any problem was when I ran out of it and didn't bother to buy a bottle for a little while...my ear certainly let me know about it then.
Hope that helps
luv & peace

RE: Any remedies 4 Middle ear pressure / infection?
Hi Stormdeva,
I must admit that I am not familiar with your remedy [Plantago]. However I shall have a look in my local health-shops for a supply. Like Kim [see above] you do not suggest the method of administering the herb. No doubt my supplier will advise me.
Thank you for your advice, hopefully I'll be posting on the matter around February time.

Hi RG

I did not put how to administer on the forum...because this is individual to each 'user' at the moment I use mine as a 'maintance level' therefore only take it once a day in the morning. However, it is 15 drops into a small amount of liquid (I use fresh orange juice) but water is fine...upto 3 times a day.

OK Stormdeva,
Fifteen drops eh! Good job I've got a steady hand & patience!
Thanks
RE: Any remedies 4 Middle ear pressure / infection?
It sound like Otitis Media with Effusion - commonly known as Glue Ear.
Whilst it's commonly known as a childhood problem it is not rare for the problem to continue into adult life.
It is a build up of secretions ranging from a clear fluid to a a gundgey sticky substance in the middle ear - behind the ear drum.
It's not always visible with an otoscope, especially if the secretion is clear. There is a device that they use in auditory depts that bounces a sound frequency off the ear drum that detects a loss of resonance in the drum, which suggests the presence of fluid.
The only use for antibiotics for this problem is if the fluid has become infected ie the fluid is yellow or green, in which case it is important to take them, because the infection can spread to the nearby brain.
Fortunately this is rare & the mostly like reason for prescribing anti-b's is that's what they give to kids as a 'just in case' measure & a lack of understanding as to the cause.
There are two possible causes:
Poor drainage from the middle ear, via the eustacian tube, into the throat.
Over stimulation of the secretory cells that produce the mucous - thought to be caused by irritation by stomach protiens that presumably got there from a fit of violent vomitting at some stage in life.
Either way improving drainage from the area is the most likely cause of action that will help. Suggest either a cranial or a classical osteopath should be able to help, but do ask if that is the sort of problem that they woudl treat beforemaking an appointment - some osteopaths aren't very osteopathic & have become quite orthopaedic in thier appproach.
RE: Any remedies 4 Middle ear pressure / infection?
Hello Andrew,
Thanks for your advice. What a pity that I live so far away from the Wirral.
However, I can state that "Glue Ear" is not a runner in my case.
Never-the-less, I remain hopeful that some of the kindly advice from all you "Topicers" will be of help.
Cheers
RE: Any remedies 4 Middle ear pressure / infection?
Thanks RG - was best guess on the info given.
If it's not fluid causing the build up of pressure, then what?
Should have said that 'glue ear' is one of those misleading terms. It can just be clear fluid that isn't necessarily visible with an otoscope & may not show up on other test described.
RE: Any remedies 4 Middle ear pressure / infection?
Can anyone advise if it is safe to have hopi ear candles used when you may have fluid in inner ear
RE: Any remedies 4 Middle ear pressure / infection?
I don't see any reason why not.
RE: Any remedies 4 Middle ear pressure / infection?
Ear candling should not be a problem unless you have gromits fitted.

Tee hee. Let by-gones be by-gones eh?
I think Richard does have grommits looking at his avatar.[sm=rollaugh.gif][sm=rollaugh.gif][sm=rollaugh.gif]
