Hi all,
I wondered if anyone might have any alternative suggestions or advice for the following problem.
My mum has had lymphatic cancer twice over the last 4 years, and the 2nd time around had to undergo quite aggresive chemo & radiotherapy
Well, this year she's been feeling much better generally, apart from her hearing has now become affected. She's felt very deaf at times which has been frightening for her and sometimes experience noise too like, continuous running water... Well, after having some tests done, deafness wasn't diagnosed, though the doctor sympathises with her problem and agrees it's most probably due to the cancer treaments, however a hearing aid would be inappropriate, and all he can do is just monitor this more closely.
The actual problem is she's hearing vowels in conversation but not consonants, so the words become distorted. I have to say it's not terrible 24/7 but she's always affected to some degree, and it's always worse when she's tired. As her doctor can't help, I wondered if any of you have treated clients with a similiar condition, or if you have any alternative healing suggestions/advice that we could try. Unfortunately I live too far away to give some regular reflexology. Would hopi ear candling help? I'll try anything!
Thankyou

I do practice ear candling, but have had no experience of treating anyone who has had your mum's problem. The difficulty is not knowing what the cause of this is. Are her lymph nodes swollen in any way? This could be causing congestion around the ear canal and giving her hearing difficulties.
Most people I treat with ear, nose throat and sinus problems often don't have a diagnosis of the problem and still do benefit from the treatments, although not all do.
Ear candling is worth a try as it can do no harm (as long as she doesn't have any infection, perforated ear drum or anything inside her ear), and it is a lovely relaxing treatment. We always recommend three treatments in the course of a month to start with, to continue the clearing process. Of course, there is the cost involved, but if she can do it, it is always worth a try.

RE: suggestions and advice please?
Hi Lesley,
So far everything has been fine during her check-ups which are regular & thorough .. Would i be able to give her a candle treatment or do you have to take a course first? I was actually thinking about do a course anyway.
Would you happen to know of any good courses in Cornwall?
Thanks again
RE: suggestions and advice please?
To be honest, the candles are available to buy in good health shops, but they should always be used with caution (a bit like aromatherapy oils being available, but there are contrainidcations). As I said, they shouldn't be used if she has an infection, perforated ear drum, grommets or anything else in her ears. I always check the ear canal first with an otoscope.
If you email Sue Maunsell, she will be able to tell you if she is running any courses in your area. Her website is or you could contact VTCT as I know they run courses too.
Hope this helps.

Hi Ocean,
I had a look in the homeopathic materia medica for your mum's symptoms - the vowel/constenant symptom drew a blank, though hearing the sound of running water indicates the remedy 'Lyss'.
Of course, I would recommend that you consult a Homeopath about the remedy, but just to let you know that there are remedies out there for this.
Hope this is helpful,
Maya

From my point of view you need to think in direction of sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) .... this is not exactly your case but just a direction to complex of conditions related to your description. The most suitable condition to your description , according to my knowledge, is condition called high-frequency hearing loss condition i.e. trouble hearing sounds in the 2,000 to 8,000 Hertz (Hz) range. In speech, this means the consonants such as s, h or f are harder to hear.
I would advise to visit neurologist for an advice and assessment. Only dr can help.
