Hi,

Anyone have any ideas how to get rid of red underarm itch? I took it to the docs who dismissed it as fungal, there was no cure but some cream would help to keep the itching down. He was right about the cream he prescribed, but once I stop using it the itching comes back as bad as before. Anyone have any ideas how I can get rid of it completely? If it makes any difference, i'm a bloke in my early 40's (and I must admit feeling a bit embarrassed).

If anyone has any ideas I really would be most grateful.

Many thanks,

Gavin.

Hi Gavin

Do you use an antiperspirant or deodorant? Perhaps an ingredient is irritating your skin. There are lots of natural deodorants you can get from health food stores and supermarkets, and these may suit your skin better.

hi gavin [sm=wave.gif]

i agree with ava that the deodorant could very well be the culprit, for the redness use something like cream e45 or zinc+ castor oil cream , best to apply it overnight as it does get messy!

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to reply Siobhan and Calla, it really is appreciated.

I have tried different deodorants and even had a spell using none, but the redness and itching still persisted. I must admit that when I apply a deodorant spray it stings, I guess it’s a reaction to the alcohol. The doc seemed to think it was fungal. Any ideas what could be good for that?

Thanks again.

Gavin.

I had something similar, but for me it was in my feet. Really annoying.

I used aromatherapy oils to get rid of it and seemed to work.
The oils that are good for skin irritations are Benzoin, Cedarwood and Chamomile & Lavender.

You could visit an aromatherapist who could make you a lotion for it.

Also most (all sold in supermarkets) deodorants have aluminium in them, it could be that or another ingredient that is causing it.
Healthfood store will have deodorants that have natural ingredients such as aromatherapy oils in them that are much more gentle for your skin.

Hiya Syndy,

Aloe Vera gel is very good for skin irritation, as is Witch Hazel gel. I have used both of these with skin irritations and inflammations with good results.

As others have said you can get very good deoderants from health stores... I use Tom's of Maine unscented deoderant stick which is great and seems to moisturise too... but you can try crystal deoderants - they are also very effective. Definitely avoid deoderants that contain aluminium and parabens at all cost!

Love and Blessings!

Hi,

I agree with Vegan Soul, Aloe Vera products could help here,Forever Livinghas two productsthat are very good, one is Aloe Propolis Creme, which has a natural antiseptic from the bee hive and is excellent for skin conditions, and the other is a deodorant stick that is free from aluminium.

RE: red underarm itch

I had aluminium poisoning some years ago, and my armpits would itch all the time, until I realised it was the aluminium that was causing it.

The aluminium stuck to my liver, so I had to take some shark capsules to remove the poison from my liver.

I now would never wear deodorant with aluminium - nasty!
