Hello everyone.
My husband died in March 17 which was a terrible shock and the grief of a 27 year marriage is still very raw throughout our family.

My usually normal blood pressure went up to silly proportions and after a trail of two different medications and a collapse in June that saw me end up in casualty, a consultant doctor gave me ramipril .

I responded fairly quickly to that and it brought my blood pressure down and stopped the vicious headaches I’d been suffering.
But the consequences of this drug have been wretched, I’m exhausted all the time and have had constant mouth ulcers.

Each time I have not taken it, by lunch time my blood pressure is back up and that headache begins to return.

I am in my late forties, overweight by a stone and at a loss of what I can do to come off this wretched drug successfully.

Is there anybody here with any experience?

Many thanks.

First, I want to say how sorry I am that you have lost your husband. I cannot imagine what you are going through.

As far as Ramipril is concerned, I can't help. But I would suggest that you look into the ketogenic (low carb, high fat) diet, as many people have had good results from it, dealing with high blood pressure and with weight (and diabetes and heart disease).

Thank you Jane.
Much appreciated, I will look into the diet and give it a try.

If your blood pressure was normal before your loss, and your weight is the same, then it is most unlikely that it is a permanent thing. Why not see another GP and get a second opinion. Even different GP prescribe different medication for the same malady and you may get a prescription for a drug that doesn't upset you whist the body is getting itself back to normal.

My symptoms have gone since I decided to cut the 2.50mg in half.
Fortunately my blood pressure has remained normal and I’m making changes to my diet.

Good for you. But check your blood pressure regularly to make sure that the new dosage is working for you. Who knows after a few months you may be able to reduce it some more.
A good Diet does have a marked positive effect on our metabolism.

Thank you, I’m keeping an eye on it.
So far so good the 1.2 (ish)mg’s are working just as well without the awful side effects.
It’s quite incredible how bad that small dose made me feel.

The dose I’ve cut in half should read. 2.5mg, I just noticed the 0 I had added by mistake.

I’m feeling much more positive about getting off them completely.
